Ok, I know I post lots of daft stuff but this is serious and I really need your lovely people advice.
So, I may or may not have mentioned that I have had this awful pain in my right leg for weeks and weeks, if not months now. I can only describe it as a deep, internal pain, going from hip, through thigh all way down to knee. Leg looks fine, doesn’t hurt to touch whatsoever, but like I said it’s an ‘internal throbbing pain’ to the point that I almost feel sick- I can’t cope with it much longer. I haven’t fallen, tripped, I’m not over weight - far from it. I’ve not done anything at all. Yes I’ve rang my doctor, but due to Covid appointments are a no no - everything is a ‘telephone consultation’. He just gave me these daft exercises to do daily, which I’ve done but haven’t made any difference at all.
I’m pretty good with pain but I’m honestly struggling now - it’s just this deep throbbing pulsating pain and I just don’t know what to do. Pls any suggestions as to what it might be would be very very appreciated right now x

what pain killers are you taking? That's not sarcastic but as an ex macmillian nurse, you'd be amazed at the amount of people who said they had pain, but never took their painkillers, or didn't take the full dose.

I’m taking co codamol(soluble) every 4hours
Or persevered with the exercises .
what strength? how many?
Can you take ibuprofen as well?
Question Author
Have to confess I’m not sure what strength - going to check now
Have you tried getting an appointment with a physiotherapist? In my experience they are the ones to go to for that type of discomfort.
My OH had indescribable pain in his shoulder which the GP said would probably need an operation. He had an MRI scan and went privately to see a consultant who gave him 'Stupid' (as you call it) exercises and within a few weeks he saw improvement and now is totally pain free.

30mg/500mg tablets
how many are you taking each time?
Can you take ibuprofen?
By what you have posted I definitely think it is Sciatica - unbelievable pain that it sometimes catches your breath.

Runs like from the middle of your hip, down your leg and into your ankle.

I had it many moons ago and it just goes away after a period of time.
Question Author
2 soluble tabs each time. Don’t know if I can take ibuprofen too - will ask this morning

Jenny - what causes it??
Well, you've tried the exercises and they haven't worked. You ring the doctor again and tell him and he'll ask you to try something else. You have to eliminate things one at a time.
yes, at the risk of sounding like a grumpy old man, add in ibuprofen 400MG three times a day
Smow - I honestly don't know what causes it but going back many moons ago - I think it lasted about 2 months. My friend took it about 2 years ago and I think she rested it as much as she could.
My first thought is sciatica - very painful condition.

Thanku for all answers, I mean that. I’m in such pain I feel sick - am going to give doctor a final call and see what he says x
Sciatica is caused by many things
https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/sciatica/
If it is sciatica , which I think is a trapped nerve, he will give you anti-inflammatories and exercises so you are back to square one. Exercises are designs to strengthen the weak areas that have caused the pain in the first place. Sometimes there is no easy fix.
Smow, that sounds exactly what I have been going through since April. As Jenny has said, Sciatica, mine was caused by the sciatic nerve being trapped in my buttock. I contacted physio as soon as they opened, started with exercises to gently stretch the muscles in the leg and back. Then had 3 appointments for manipulation, where he really stretched my muscles massaged the point in my buttock, where he could feel the knot, with his thumbs. I warn you the treatment is excruciating, but the leg is now bearable and have to carry on doing the exercises daily until it clears up.
So there is hope but find yourself a good physio,
