Try working for the NHS then you would really be fed up with it! Finally had 2 days out of full PPE this week then ended up back in it again, least it stops me eating too much chocolate ....

////How long, realistically do people expect the health of the vast majority of the general population (and the economy) to be sacrificed at the alter of Covid? It may be a harsh thing to say, but the question needs to be asked and answered (honestly) quickly.////
Well said parsley. I might add that people disobeying government recommendations are passively hastening total herd immunity by whatever definition one might use.
Just own upto it.

Why is that FF?
Many thousands more people are now testing positive for Covid on a daily basis (of course we don't know the figures before increased testing, since apparently a lot of these positive results are in people showing no or very little symptoms). These vastly increased numbers of positive tests are not resulting in thousands of admissions to hospital and resultant deaths. How can anyone know if thousands more people have to die to get herd immunity? Again I have to ask, why is this unacceptable? Surely if we are to survive anything, herd immunity has to be the way to go, even with a safe vaccine (if we ever get one), everyone can't be protected or saved.

I don't need to justify it, ParsleyDumping. It's the consensus view in Sage and epidemiologists in England, Scotland, Wales, N Ireland. I assume you missed Chris Whitty's explanation and have missed the growth in Covid admissions and uptick in deaths in other countries and now here. Or you disbelieve the experts and their followers, so nothing I say will change your mind
Just pointing out the truth!! if that irritates you then so be it. Closing the pubs or shutting them early will keep the crime rate down, drunken driving, litter reduced, and young girls getting into trouble that will stay with them for most of their lives. All sounds like a good plan to me, ( for a change)
You are unlikely to see anything like that number of deaths from Covid before herd immunity kicks in, ff. For a start those deemed to be vulnerable would mainly opt to stay out of it. And it'd be the government's responsibility to ensure old folks' homes aren't being dumped on. Furthermore one has to get to HI at some point, all that's presently happening is it's being stretched out to take longer getting there; and, not that it's a relevant argument either way, but the reality is that in a population of 66,650,000 100,000 is 0.15%. And compare that to heart disease that kills 170,000 a year.
12.56 You won't be the first or the last to call me names, for spelling out the truth, you can turn you head away form trouble and problems, but that won't get rid of them like some think, We've all been bought back down to earth with covid whether one likes it or not. Its also stopped us doing the bad things we have been doing to the planet and to ourselves if you think about it in depth. But if name calling is all you have to offer , then so be it.
I think the virus will continue to lurk around looking for fresh victims to infect, and any lockdowns and restrictions will only slow its progress until everybody has been exposed.
And then there is the possibility of the virus solving into something similarly dangerous.
The global effects already seen are the beginnings of an economic meltdown, unemployment, mass protests and violence. In other words, a complete breakdown of society, and anarchy.

17.04 And its been coming for a long time, we've treated the planet like a dustbin, and still doing so despite the continual warnings. Invading wildlife habitat, polluting the air to the point of choking in some countries, we are getting what we deserve big time, greed and selfishness, I'm all right jack for has long as it lasts attitude.
We have seen a huge surge in positive tests, but not the resultant hospital admissions and deaths. If it is the thought of the thousands that MIGHT die that is causing people to worry over Covid, then why is it OK to sacrifice thousands more to an early death from cancers and other conditions, that are currently not being treated, because of Covid?
