A Covid Moan/Rant

I was admitted to hospital yesterday with a Hb level of 6.8. All went reasonably well, I was isolated until the Covid test came back negative. Transferred to a medical ward, where I had a Monofer infusion, two units of blood, and a saline drip.
All ok so far. Felt safe.
Then at about 8pm tonight a woman came on the ward saying she was in for "suspected corona, obviously"..I'm afraid I had a bit of a panic, and left the ward. I have been so particular since March, not mixing, not going out, generally doing as I should.
Concerned now I may be refused any further treatment should it become neccessary. I did tell the staff why I was leaving.

No idea Mamya, I legged it as fast as I could, she didn't even wear her mask on the ward. I say fast, I actually told the staff, but they made little of it. Luckily my transfusion had finished, and they had unhooked me. I stayed long enough for them to remove the cannula. Just worried as this is an ongoing scenario with me.

ferlew, I can well understand why you are unnerved. But would a covid case be on an ordinary medical ward !. I think Mamya has a point with she may have been confused?

Bloody stupid idiotic reaction on your part if you think about it....the woman had a suspected CORONARY heart attack and even if she had suspended Covid she would not have been admitted to A NHS hospital.
Ridiculous action on your part.
You had better get in contact with you GP on Monday to get back into the hospital system to see why you blood was so low.

My first thought was coronary as well. Surely the nurses would have explained, or does the requirement not to discuss other people's conditions forbid this?

Reading it my impression was that fewlew was to concerned and uptight to have a meaningfull conversation with the staff , he/she just left and mentioned why on the way out??

I did put my concerns to the staff, and she did say 'corona' not coronary. Having sat and thought it all through, my intention is to write to the hospital expressing my concerns, and giving the reasons for leaving abruptly.
To Squad, I did have my infusion, and transfusions. My 2nd unit of blood was just finishing going through when this woman was admitted. The treatment plan was for me to leave after the transfusion anyway, so I don't think I am being silly.
The woman concerned was laying in her bed, and apparently in no distress, as she was ordering a hot chocolate from the tea trolley, and issuing precise instruction on how it was to be made.

I didn't say in my original post, but there was a young girl (14/16) on the ward, and her mother stayed overnight with her. Fine, they had probably both been tested. What did concern me a bit was that they were on and off the ward to the canteen, to the car park to take stuff that was being brought in for them.
Maybe I am being over cautios, but I do not accept 'silly or idiotic',

No LadyCG, not so far. I have had the camera "up" and "down". Abdominal scan, camera up my nose and down my throat and whatever else. The last couple have years have just been to top me up with either blood or Monofer every few months. To be honest, I am fed up of myself and feeling so weak and breathless constantly. The doctor who saw me on admittance recognised me, and he did say this has been going on a long time, and he thought it was now the time do either a swallow of a little camera so the small bowel could be seen, or (shudder) a bone marrow biopsy. He said he would write to my gastro consultant to that end.
Now I am calmer, I have submitted a factual summary of my stay, requested to be contacted and asked that I may have reassurance I will not be penalised for leaving abruptly.

Several weeks ago I was admitted to hospital after having breathing problems , a flare up of COPD . I was admitted to ward with separate rooms , as I was wheeled in I noticed lots of the doors had red signs on them , I said wait a minute are these covid patients in here I was told yes and that it was ok as nurses had PPE etc . I said I was not happy being there and was told nearly all the wards had some covid patients in them . Basically like it or go home .

There's definitely something going on, ferlew. Hopefully the wireless capsule endoscopy will be diagnostic.
