I had the first vaccination yesterday afternoon and have had the worst night I can ever recall. Still awake at 3.30 and got up for the loo, and couldn't manage more than an hour or hour and a quarter segments all night. I had a thumping headache and even though I took a hot water bottle to bed, I was cold and shivery. Every time I woke up, I had to go to the loo - 5 in all but I didn't have the energy to go downstairs to get some paracetamol. Eventually I soaked a flannel in cold water and kept that on my head but this morning, head still thumping and neck stiff. Anyone had similar symptoms and how long are they likely to last. I've taken some paracetamol now.
My Mater had the Oxford one and extreme fatigue to the point that she was non-responsive to folk and no food or fluids - they put her on an end of life path.
My sister broke the vicious cycle and she's been bright, cheery and hungry since! They're taking her off the path. It's been the strongest reaction of any of the homes within the Group as to inmates - but there have been several reports of extreme fatigue from the staff. The manageress is doing the right thing in notifying the quacks before round two......
Well I'm almost 20 years younger than the person you were talking about pixie so I hope that's in my favour!
Thank you for your encouraging post Pooka1950
the thing I was worried about was picking up covid at the clinic and the side effects being The Start
( actually in a nieghbour but I was Very Exercised Indeed by that one)
Oh dear! That's putting me off the Oxford one too! I have had reactions like that to 'flu vaccines in the past, but they only lasted about 48 hrs.. I'll keep my fingers crossed and go for it because I don't want the itchy rash OH is still suffering from after the Pfizer - 38 days and counting... now trying anti-histamine tablets since hydro-cortisone and betamethasone only ease it but don't clear it.
FAO Squad and Mamyalynne: I took both your suggestions to the nurse doing his dressings, she is young and I don't think she'd heard of them. She didn't comment anyway and looked a bit baffled. Will give the anti-histamines a week and then insist on seeing one of the senior doctors. Getting fed-up of this - better that than Covid though, keep remembering that.
Hmmm.... I hope not. People are usually more confident if they know what to expect. And anyone worried about side-effects, will be more worried about covid. I think.
You could be right... we have been able to reassure a few people who felt unwell after that it seemed to be normal, and didn't last long. I would have thought that most people will already know if they'll have it or not. But, if it doesn't help, I won't share any more experience.
I think you are right Pixie. There is a difference between saying that people you know have had xxx yyy as a side effect and it lasted xxx long to "OMG I was SO ILL and everyone I know who has had it was SO ILL"
jourdain I do the same every year ready to have flu vac. Most years I have 24-48 hours of feeling ropey and tired and odd years its worse. The years when I am fine (like this year) I celebrate!
