I had the first vaccination yesterday afternoon and have had the worst night I can ever recall. Still awake at 3.30 and got up for the loo, and couldn't manage more than an hour or hour and a quarter segments all night. I had a thumping headache and even though I took a hot water bottle to bed, I was cold and shivery. Every time I woke up, I had to go to the loo - 5 in all but I didn't have the energy to go downstairs to get some paracetamol. Eventually I soaked a flannel in cold water and kept that on my head but this morning, head still thumping and neck stiff. Anyone had similar symptoms and how long are they likely to last. I've taken some paracetamol now.
Did they tell you it was the Oxford vaccine, I thought they were not allowed to say which one you had. I have heard there can be side effects with this one, puts me off having it. Hope you feel better soon.
Hopefully you'll get better soon. Flue jabs give me a reaction for 24 hours. But its better than covid. Mate has been pretty much bed ridden for 4 months but is grateful as his work partner died
Everybody I know has been told which vaccine they were given; the second dose should be the same as the first.
I had no reaction at all to my vaccination; neither did anybody I know who's had it.
However bad you were it can't have been as bad as catching the virus.
Your description of the side effects are not atypical of what I consider to be an under reported consequence of vaccine but particularly the Astrazeneca one.
Mrs sqad had exactly the same response as you and so did a couple of her mates.
I had my first Pfizer vaccine yesterday, my upper arm is feeling a bit tender but other than that I've not felt any side effects at all. It sounds like you've had a much more extreme reaction than most others but I guess it varies from person to person. Hopefully you will soon be OK but if it doesn't improve over the weekend I would contact your doc.
I had the Oxford vaccine Thursday and no side effects yet, but some people don’t get them until a few days after and some people get none. I had the bird flu vaccination quite a few years back now and had no problems with that, so I’m hoping for the best. But a friend of mine was ill like you and you have my sympathy.
I`ve heard of people being "floored" by the AZ vaccine (including people who have already had Covid) They reckon the headaches are caused by dehydration so they advise drinking plenty of water and taking a couple of paracetamol.
Naturally I prescribed Ibuprofen for Mrs sqad and at least it gave her a good night's sleep and brought her temperature down.
Paracetamol is as effective.
Thanks for all your responses. I was told it was the Oxford vaccine. Another symptom was a slight feeling of sickness.
I've just had a nap in the armchair but still feel dreadfully tired. Just have to ride it out - luckily it hasn't spoiled any plans we had for the weekend!
FoxLee, have you ever had days like this before?
I quite often feel like this. Had no sleep at all on Thursday night although I managed to get some last night, but this morning I have a pounding head and sore neck, am feeling nauseous and I've not had the vaccine yet!
I was due to have my vaccine yesterday but it was cancelled.
If I had have had it done, I would be blaming how I feel on it.
No, Barsel, not felt like this before and my husband has had similar after effects so it's got to be down to the vaccine. The pounding head has eased a bit but feel so dreadfully tired.
I know six who have had the Oxford one (all over 85). They have all had fatigue, and different people, fever, aches, just feeling bad generally. One has been 2 weeks now, the others seemed better within a week.
Thank you Mamyalynne - I've got a blower heater on me and clutching a hot water bottle and I still feel cold. I wish I didn't know that the side effects can last up to two weeks.
