My OH continually clears his throat, it is driving me mad. He won’t go to the doctor, what can I make him do to stop this?

You must be doing lots of things wrong about the house, is the dinner late, or have you not done any housework for a time, shirts not clean ?
Does he claim to feel any obstruction or phlegm etc?

It may just have become a habit Smurf.
Post nasal drip
smurfchops - you've put up with it for the last sixteen years ! Aren't you used to it by now ?

It could also be GERD.
I find dairy products make it worse.
Not enough information, nowhere near enough.
Has he any underlying medical conditions and what drugs is he taking? If he is taking tablets do they stick and he finds them difficult to swallow?
Can he drink water without spluttering.
Does he have earache or has his voice changed?
Does he smoke?
>>> It could also be GERD

. . . or, since there's no heartburn, possibly LPR

I was constantly clearing my throat when I was younger and it was years before I found out that LPR was behind the problem.

He takes atorvastatin. He often says food and drink has “gone down the wrong hole” and starts coughing. He also sneezes a lot. Don’t laugh!! It sounds like post nasal drip to me but is there anything that will clear it?
//////He often says food and drink has “gone down the wrong hole” and starts coughing. /////

He needs to see his GP........but he won't.
So go to the chemist for a decongestant nasal spray, anyone will do as the pharmacist suggests.
Smurf, I think we are married to the same man :-)
I think mine has secret lives with smurfchops and ubasses. ;)

Seriously, though, smurf. Is he bringing up phlegm?
Fresh pineapple juice or tea with honey is worth a try.

Ha love your answers x not bringing up phlegm but yes often says he has earache. Oh the woes of a wife ....
Mr U has been prescribed Beconase Spray, it does not seem to have had any effect, and like Mr Smurf getting him to a doctor is like talking to a brick wall.!
The earache is significant.........he needs to see his doctor and certainly an ENT surgeon.
Question Author
He says it’s “itchy” inside his ear ... what could it be Sqad?? Certainly needs to see ENT Dr but too stubborn...
Question Author
Oh and burps a lot! This is getting ridiculous ....
Check out pharyngeal pouch.
I don't believe there is anything reasonable one can do to force a partner to stop doing something. One may ask, or may suggest they need to seek help/advice. Seeing the pharmacist seems a good idea as one can't deny there is an issue to investigate.
