Naproxen

Hello hello. I've been prescribed Naproxen for shoulder pain but I've read up on the side effects and I'm now scared to take them! Just wondering if anyone has taken this and their experiences with it? Thanks

The drug companies are required by law to list every single possible side-effect, but the accent is in the 'possible' bit. As advised, the vast majority suffer none of the effects, but if anyone did, the company is absolved from legal action because it is covered by its advice.

No personal experience but side effects from NHS show possible side effects, which you already know.

If you are worried, ask your GP if there is an alternative.

I find Ibuprofen more effective (I believe they are related) -I've a touch of gout in one big toe at the moment, having shed weight quickly and thrown my body out of kilter with the Purinol recently - and the Ibu has (as in the past) far more effect on pain management.....today, my quack said 'go for the Ibuprofen first and then if you need the real whack of Colchicine (a crocus derivative) then let me know'.
Peter according to the NHS web site Naproxen can cause tiredness and sleepiness. It literally knocked me out on a flight from Newcastle to Faro . I remember the plane taking off and then landing -nothing in between for the 3-hour flight. Maybe it had something to do with the cabin environment, but I didn't take any more.
I’ve been taking naproxen for many months now; this is for backpain and EDS joint pain. I tend to take no more than 500 mg per day as like you, I am concerned about side-effects. That said, I have experienced no side-effects at all. I would suggest taking it, but if your pain improves, start to take slightly less and see how you go. Sometimes there is no need to stay on drugs for a very long time. Also they can start to be less affective if you take them long term. I have some 250 mg tablets which gives me the option of taking a smaller dose.
