Injured Coccyx/ Backbone.....
45 Answers
Yes I know I’m accident prone, but ever since I slipped on the stairs two days ago and fell directly backwards, crashing down directly on my back onto a hardwood floor, I’ve been in incredible pain. I can barely move without shouting out in pain. Mr smow has even had to help turn me over in bed as I just can’t do it on my own. I can hardly walk or even sit up. Am dosed up with painkillers. Doctor isn’t seeing anyone and all they would say to do it to go to A & E, but there is no way I can sit on a hard chair there for hours.
So, what would really be best treatment at home? Heat or ice?? I’ve tried getting a hot bath, with great difficulty, but it didn’t help at all.
Any advice much much appreciated, or anything I can try xx

This painful reaction is due to muscular spasm and may last for a day or so and in your case, probably a week or so.
It matters not one jot whether you apply heat or cold.
Take a full dose of any Nsaid, e.g Ibuprofen or Naproxen and try to move around if at all possible, but if not sit comfortably in a chair.

I had coccydynia many years ago blimey it dragged on and hurt (sorry smow) I looked into treatment then (we were in the US, we had decent insurance but it would have meant finding a doctor and so on) and then the advice was either to use the analgesia of choice, use heat or cold on the painful area, according to preference and a ring cushion to take pressure off the coccyx. The medical option was steroid injections, described as of limited success and very painful, although this may have changed.
"Barmaid I fell down the stairs over a year ago and hit every step on the way down on my coccyx. I used pain killers, hot or cold treatment and a ring cushion. The first 8 weeks were the worst but even now it is painful at times"
Yup that's how I did it, hard soled hiking boots on a polished wood staircase.
