I had a cataract op last Saturday. I was told not to put my head down but stupidly did not ask how long it would be before I could. You do not realise how often you put your head down until you cannot do it! Anybody know when I can?

I managed to fund an Aussie site there. Here is the same info closer to home. (less eye strain looking at it) https://eyesadvisor.com/restrictions-cataract-surgery-recovery/

I have never heard of that, welshfarmer and the NHS and Bupa links make no mention of it in the 'recovery sections'.

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/cataract-surgery/recovery/

Can you phone your surgeon's receptionist for clarification, or your GP.
My wife and I have both had two cataract operations apiece. We were never told this.
I wasn't told this, I was told to limit screen time (tablets, computers) for a couple of weeks
Had two cataract ops and have never heard of that. If you are concerned then why not give the hospital a ring just to check things out.
This is important.
Don't put you head down for at least one week after cataract surgery.
If you do in all probability no harm will ensue, but don't tempt fate.
Sqad, I think you are pulling his leg.
OK.
If you don't put your head down ,how will you be able to see if your toe nails need clipping?
I had a cataract op on one eye & got no advice about head position.
I was given the same advice that sqad has provided earlier when I had two of the ops. When you bend over and lower your head it increases the pressure on your eyeball and this could open the slight slit in your eye that is done to insert the new lense. Do not rub your eye or put any external pressure on it for a week either.
""The eye needs to rest and not be under pressure. This involves not swimming for two weeks, not engaging in any heavy lifting for two weeks and not undertaking any strenuous exercise for 1 month. Also, limit the number of times you bend over to minimise any strain on the eye. If possible, avoid sneezing or vomiting right after cataract surgery.""

Thank you all very much.
Ta Tanner. I have subsequently found a bit of info saying that "modern techniques" for the procedure do not necessitate refraining from bending down. Unless you know which procedure you had I would not take the chance for a week or so. Besides not being able to "do much" is a damned good cop to add to your chore avoidance capabilities. Did you notice the results Tanner when the patch came off?

Togo yes I did. If I take my glasses off I can see traffic on the Brittania Bridge and I could hardly see the bridge before! Just need the other eye doing now.
Best move I ever made, having them done. When you find you can actually read and write again after three years it's like a miracle. Totally painless as well.
When you go back for the follow up appointment Tanner, thank them for doing such a wonderful job, but make a big case for getting the other done by explaining that you find steps are now dangerous and that the effect of having one eye so good and the other still poor makes you dizzy. Maintain that closing one eye to walk makes you liable to lose balance and walk into things. The consultant will be doing her/his best to defer the other to "save money", in all probability, if you resist this and insist on having it done for your safety and well being it will happen quicker.

P.S. Did you find that colours were much more vivid too?
Question Author
Togo. Yes colours were more vibrant. Do not know when the follow up will be. The staff were all from a private hospital in Chester which is why the consultation and op were done at a weekend but it was done at YG.
// Sqad, I think you are pulling his leg.//
no he isnt
I wd put it longer - but I am not sure if that is hip eplavement

here we are
You should not bend over after cataract surgery for at least 2 weeks. Bending over will place pressure on the eye and this may cause unnecessary complications to your eye.

and boys and gurlz
that is simple goggle of - - - post cataract bending down
which erm anyone cd have done
// The consultant will be doing her/his best to defer the other to "save money",//
pretty crazy even for AB
here not doing an op wont save moolah because - - - the place on the list is taken by someone else. It will only save moolah if it is never done not if it is delayed

er sozza - carry on raving
