I had a c section. Out for the count though, and rather glad I didn't hear remarks like that. My husband was in a corner, being held up by a wall...or so I was told the next morning. I heard it was messy.

I was at the head end, couldn't see over the tent barrier. My wife did say it felt as if people were washing up in her stomach. I think she was a bit hysterical. Fabulous experience for both of us - which was surprising as we had booked a home birth and were bitterly disappointed that couldn't happen

Well I wouldn't want to be coughed or sneezed over and if you are holding a scalpel you can't cover your nose and mouth without risking damaging an eye!

An operation can last for hours, can’t really compare that with 20 minutes in a shop

Prefer A. But as you pointed out, hip operations are more susceptible to infection. Mine was. MRSA, dislocation, hip plate moving, jolly times....

Not massively. Particularly if they pulled a bit of dirty cloth from their pocket that had been there for 6 months.
However, I would prefer them to wash their hands and wear gloves first. Not something we ask of the public.

Relatively short period of time? A lot of the stuff out there says even surgical masks are only effective for about 15 mins, trust me if that was the case our litigation conscious NHS would have them changed every 10 to be on the safe side, but no they wear the same mask for the whole op, unless they are taking breaks. 3 hours is not unusual. How long do you wear one ... An hour to go round the supermarket?
