Just read some German Equestrian Training Lady has been filmed punching a horse in Japan.

I hope she dies in a fire.

Too harsh?

i wouldn't be surprised if there isn't a long queue forming

Maybe a bit harsh. Lets just hope the horse remembers and gets it's own back.
Was it a Suffolk Punch?
the horse appears to have been in the wrong job, though probably not of its own volition.
I didn't realise that they were riding horses that they just met. Horses are big and scary.

I think the fact that everyone knows that she punched the stubborn horse and was sent home is enough punishment.
The horse, Saint Boy, did get his own back by refusing to jump any obstacles, demoting the rider from 1st position down to 31st. Tough on the rider though as it was the German coach who punched the horse.
it was already misbehaving, Ken, hence the punch. It'll be off to the dogfood factory soon enough.
It seems that there were complaints about more than one horse.

Give it to the French, they'll eat it.

Or Tesco to put in their burgers
Yes, jno, it had already refused to jump the obstacles for a Russian rider. Makes one wonder how it was chosen in the first instance?
The horses for the pentathlon are all show jumpers and as such are very in tune with their riders. A good show jump rider should be able to ride a trained jump horse. Possible these riders were already tense before mounting their horse and this was conveyed to the horse. The German rider in question was having problems with the horse in the warmup ring and was already visibly distressed before she entered the ring and the horse would react to this. While some of today's male riders had some issues they did much better. To a trained eye some of the riders were not sitting correctly and tried to "steer" the horses too much and not let the horse read the lay of the jump.
Calmk, a lot of people seem to be saying similar. I did try to find the actual round on YouTube, but could only find reports.
calmck, the horse had already been causing problems for an earlier rider.
It sounds more like people were causing problems for the horse... he wasn't happy.
I've seen riders hitting a horse's neck harder than that to congratulate it at the end of a race. The "punch" is little more than a pat on the bum and the problem was that she was classed as interfering with the rider who had only 20 minutes to get familiar with the horse before riding it; the rider has to settle the horse with no outside help.
