I am in the midst of a Crohns flare up.
The hospital sent me targeted steroids to calm things down.
But have been vomiting, and breaking out in cold sweats.
My back and legs shivering, no strength at all, but my forehead wet with sweat.
I feel reply I'll but have never before been affected like this from steroids.
Any thoughts?

What are targeted steroids? Are they anything like oral steroids which you have to taper off, steroid suppositories, or something completely different?
First thing I’d do is call the IBD nurse hotline and leave an urgent message. Then I’d call my gp practice and stress to the receptionist how urgent your call is especially as it’s bank holiday weekend.
Nothing to do with the steroids which may take up to 2 weeks to have an effect.
Stick with it over the weekend, get electrolyte hydration from the pharmacist and monitor the situation.
If your general condition worsens then go to A&E.

Thank you. I take Prednisolone tablets tapering off when I have COPD exacurbations.
These new steroids are supposed to target the intestines, again tapering off towards the end of the course.
As an aside...there is an hour-long programme on Crohns on BBC1 at 7 pm tonight...
That’s interesting Theland, hope they do the trick for you.
Did you get in touch with anyone or are you taking squads advice?
As an aside, I have met Dr Crohn......well, he didn't speak to me but was on the same ward round lol lol.
Burrill Bernard Crohn?? Him what they named the disease after??? Wow!!!
I have an interest in Crohn’s as we have two family members with it, and one with ulcerative colitis. To be honest we’re quite an autoimmune disease riddled family generally.
The very man Vagus......lol.
In fact he asked about you -:)
Well he would, wouldn’t he...once met, never forgotten
:o)

Yes I'm taking Squads advice, and watching the TV programme about the dancer Amy Dowden.
Thank God I have never suffered like this young lady
I watched the programme too Theland, poor girl really suffers doesn’t she?
I hope that it opens peoples eyes to what can be the reality of living with Crohn’s is like as many people just think it’s diarrhoea, and it’s soooo much more than that.
I do hope you’re feeling a bit better today Theland and are managing to keep the steroids down so they can work their magic on your guts.

Ruth, thank you for notifying us and my sincere condolences to you and your family.

Theland and I often disagreed on many things, but he was a good man and will be greatly missed in these pages.
AB won't be the same without him, even if we didn't all agree with some his views.

Rest in peace, friend.
RIP Theland.
Sincere condolences to Ruth and family.
