Pre Diatbetic
51 Answers
A few days ago I posted a thread about my blood pressure been a bit high.
At the start of lockdown, a year and a half ago, I was also sent a letter from my doctor telling me that my blood tests (taken a few weeks earlier) have shown that I am pre-diabetic.
(I had a quick telephone consultation which more of less ended with the words, get back to us when this is covid stuff is all over)
So my blood pressure is a bit high, And im pre-diabetic.
I know that its not great.
But I am a bit concerned tbh.
I have a free lung check for smokers and ex smokers over the telephone tomorrow
(Though how on Earth that is going to play out, I have no idea)
All that I know is that I have been asked to provide my height, weight and blood pressure.
Im pre-diabetic with high blood pressure apparently, but it can all be sorted out over the phone during my free lung test....
Whatever happened to face to face appointments with a GP?
What a farce!

The power to help lies either in medication (which you dont need to physically see a GP to get) or in your hands (losing weight, eating less, moving more, living more healthily) none of which you need to see a GP for
As per....
Telephone appointment never occurred.
Rang up at 9:50 to enquire why?
(Had to be out on my van by 10.00 at the latest so wasn't going to pull over on a dual carrige way to answer phone by then)
Got a few half hearted apologies as to why I hadnt been called and given a new app in 3 weeks.
Yeah! New way of doing things are great........
(Not)
Diagnosed as pre-diabetic a year and a half ago.
Telephone consultation....Ring back when pandemic ends!!
Problem with my knee joint...
Get back in touch after Pandemic....
meantime here's a ***ing you tube vid to watch as if one size fits all .
(it doesnt)
If telephones consultations are the way to go, then *f* it...
And how the hell can a medic take your blood pressure over the phone
(even if you have your own machine) how the hell would he know that ur telling the truth?
he/she might be trying to get drugs through you?
I know...Ive been involved in it in the past?
A face to face with a medic is the ONLY way.

Nailit, start doing your own research regarding diabetes. Don't wait for a consultation.
Lots of information here...start reading, do something about your diet. I think there also forums on this site so you can speak to others like yourself.

Take your own BP.
We will ring you back.
(but we wont ring you back..& you know we won't)
Yes, had a feeling....
(And we will offer profuse apologies)
Had a feeling that you would...
And make appointment for another day...yet again!
Why do I get a feeling of rinse and repeat?
Is it maybe because Ive been here before

I'm in the Midlands and don't have the problems with my GP that you are experiencing, nailit. Maybe it is time to change your GP.
You seem very concerned about being pre-diabetic. That means you are not diabetic so don't worry too much about it. See what happens in your next round of blood tests - or buy a cheap glucose monitor, learn how to use it effectively from that link pasta provided and how your blood sugar is now. Just do it twice a day for a couple of weeks - once before eating and again two hours after.
I am aware you have other health issues. You should be far more worried about those than non-diabetes and high blood pressure which can easily be treated with one little tablet a day. Seems to me you are distracting yourself from your real worries.
