Chesty Cough...covid?

Daughter started with this yesterday. Worse this morning with a bit of acheyness. No fever. She's done 3-4 lft tests...negative. Booked for a pcr shortly. Won't know the results until tomorrow or Monday.

There is another thread - over run with bad info bad argument and tendentious statements but

it seems clear that the LFT is good for excluding an infection ( excluding out sort of) and is not that good a diagnostic instrument

so that if you have symptoms booking a PCR is the way forward (includes in)

following the denominator thread "why dont they report how many tests pos+neg have been done?" - sqad you need to dumb down

LFTS will pick up covid ( omicron included ) but not distinguish the two (*)
( you know I failed an exam because the examiner decided I had said a sickle would distinguish trait and homozygote. Bloody woman £1000 to retake) after forty y it still rankles


LFT: any covid virus comes out as covid present and not the type of covid identified

and

LFTs are done properly ( if you are not wiping the dogs bottom and so on ) after 5 - ( tests ) - established Mar 2020

I looked it up as these things grow legs - Health officer insists etc

LFTs detect covid (both omicron and other) but doesnt distinguish between them. - official

your right of course sqad. LFTs generally picks up covid (but perversely dos'nt always pick it up if you have strong covid symptoms) but LFT does NOT say which variant it is.
PCRs give you a more reliable positive or negative but then theres a further analasis which can say if its omicron or not
