Compressed Spine Fracture - Is Sqad About Please??

Feeling very lost and in so much pain I don’t know what else to do.
Had huge fall in bathroom on Monday morning - cut v long story short after ambulance called, CT scans, MRI etc I have a compressed fracture of spine, and another fracture right above. All sent to parent hospital neurosurgeons etc who think at mo I don’t need surgery, but to keep in body spinal brace until pain is under control, which it isn’t yet. Cannot sit up, stand up, which they have tried me to do but the pain is off the scale. Am on tablet morphine, codeine, and oral morphine twice a day plus IV paracetamol. Brace is so so uncomfy and not sure what it’s even doing but is just digging in to me. Can’t seem to get any sense out of anyone what on earth I’m meant to do when I get home as I can’t even sit up here in a hospital bed - can’t even change any part of clothing as cannot bend whatsoever. They just keep saying speak to doctor next week/pain relief team……. Will they make me stay here till I can stand?? Again I can’t get an answer out of anyone and I just can’t take much more like this. It’s a manic department anyway so feeling utterly lost and alone.
Can anyone offer any advice on usual recovery please?? Anything at all would be so appreciated.

Pat I have gone from 6 ft 1 to 5ft 8. and my children are now all taller than me.

Most of the pain will be due muscular spasm a for that you are being treated appropriately.

You will not be allowed home until your pain is under control.

I can't add any more than has been mentioned above.

Thankyou for answering Sqad - what about healing?? I honestly can’t sit up/ sit on tailbone or even stand/straighten up.

My husband and son have turned into giants Danny!! My legs are still long and the top of me is all squashed up!!

Has your tailbone healed from the last fracture? Have you got osteoporosis?

Healing will not be a problem taking about 6-8 weeks.

The problem will be relieving the muscle spasm. You will need physiotherapy.

Naomi - I didn’t even have my phone or iPad until Friday. Absolutely nothing. At least this weekend I’ve been able to try and catch up on emails, read some news etc because I can’t do anything else x
And it looks like the weather is horrendous outside today x

Why didn’t someone bring them for you? How tedious stuck there like that with nothing to occupy your mind.

Don’t know why they didn’t, probably thought that I was in so much pain that I wouldn’t be able to even look at them. But ,I’ve got a couple of books too now x

Would Valium help with the muscle spasms? Some years ago, I hurt my back (nothing as bad as yours snow) and the painkillers didn’t help much but Valium did help

So sorry to hear what's happened to you Smow. It's going to be hard for you to top this but no doubt you'll manage;-)). I hope the pain gets sorted quickly.
Where are your family I thought they'd be by your bedside? I hope you get a visit soon as it sounds as if you're going to be there for a while. Cheer up, I bet there are plenty of ABers sending good wishes over the air waves. xx

Are you allowed visitors in hospital at the moment? My boss came out last week and she didn't see anyone for a month as they wouldn't let anyone in.

Visiting is allowed 2-8pm and surprisingly more than one visitor per bed. No flowers allowed tho.
Mr smow came in yesterday and they didn’t even ask him to wear a face mask but he brought one.he is working long hours today. Teen smow has just moved to Devon. :(

I think hospitals are still being very strict about visitors.

They seem to be v short staffed here.

To be honest visitors can get in the way especially if there's a staff shortage.
