Feeling very lost and in so much pain I don’t know what else to do.
Had huge fall in bathroom on Monday morning - cut v long story short after ambulance called, CT scans, MRI etc I have a compressed fracture of spine, and another fracture right above. All sent to parent hospital neurosurgeons etc who think at mo I don’t need surgery, but to keep in body spinal brace until pain is under control, which it isn’t yet. Cannot sit up, stand up, which they have tried me to do but the pain is off the scale. Am on tablet morphine, codeine, and oral morphine twice a day plus IV paracetamol. Brace is so so uncomfy and not sure what it’s even doing but is just digging in to me. Can’t seem to get any sense out of anyone what on earth I’m meant to do when I get home as I can’t even sit up here in a hospital bed - can’t even change any part of clothing as cannot bend whatsoever. They just keep saying speak to doctor next week/pain relief team……. Will they make me stay here till I can stand?? Again I can’t get an answer out of anyone and I just can’t take much more like this. It’s a manic department anyway so feeling utterly lost and alone.
Can anyone offer any advice on usual recovery please?? Anything at all would be so appreciated.
Xx

hey sorry to hear this. as you can see, i am not sqad. you wont be sent home till an assesment is done.
ask them to increase your pain killers
I cn only offer heartfelt sympathy, you poor soul. I've a compressed lower spine, but it didn't fracture. It will adjust and recover is all I know from someone else, but probably not to 'normal' you'll be like a lot of us, having to take care etc.. Cry if you need - spinal pain's horrible.
Come on Sqad.....
Is there anyone who could help you at home?
Smow, are you in hospital at the moment?
Oh goodness poor you Smow...if it's not one thing it's another. Can't offer any advice...I just hope you get some soon xx
Oh Dear Smo, that’s awful, stay strong

I’ve been in hospital since Monday. I keep telling them this pain relief isn’t even touching it. Physio have seen me twice and tried to get me to edge of bed to sit, and to attempt to stand(with brace on) but I was screaming in pain and literally couldn’t do it. I’m apparently in ward/unit between A/E and the Main Osteo ward. This is called Surgical4 apparently, but I’ve not even seen outside it. Nothing has changed since I’ve been in here for me - just don’t know how much longer I can take of this :( I can’t even turn over without screaming and even that takes about half hour.
danny...don't you ever read all of a post, before answering?

MrSmow is at home to help if I ever get there
Oh no! Poor you.
As the others have said. You really need to see if you can have the pain relief increased.
I hope you feel better soon. x
Not a great deal I can say Smow, but I hope they get you some better control of pain whilst they decide what's next.
Oh Smow, I've been wondering if you've been alright, as you haven't been on here for a while.
So sorry you're in terrible pain. I guess these sort of injuries will take a bit if time to get over. Try and stay strong mentally, easier said than done, I know. Hope pain relief team can help you very soon. Xx
I can offer no more than my very best wishes to you for some relief from the pain soon & for a speedy & comfortable recovery x

Yes I do, but I am not infallible and miss things at times. I am sure that you are absolutely perfect in your reading of posts,Anyway thank you for the snide remark.
I hope that your problems ease as quickly as possible, Smow. In the meantime though, this might possibly be relevant:

Snow. I have had three compression fractures in my spine over the last ten years. I completely empathise and sympathise with you. None of mine have received any treatment due to the position they are in. They have caused me to shrink a few inches though. It's difficult to say how long it will take to be up and about. It depends on where the fractures are. Only medics can advise. But it won't be short term and you will need to be patient. Just try to relax at the moment. You will need help when you go home and that will be sorted.

My friend husband had a spinal brace fitted for a compression fractures last year and that helped a lot. He was in the brace for 6 Weeks but could take it off at night.
He needed physio treatment for about 12 weeks. But we are all different.

Keep in touch xx

Do you remember my bathroom fall last Autumn?
I have several fractured vertebrae which I did not even know about until my doctor informed me of them after a scan for another matter. I
did wonder what had caused me to lose 4 inches in height though.I wish you well Smow and hope they get you sorted PDQ.

Buenchicho - I wish mine was as supportive as that one looks . Mine is a solid ‘bar’ above the breastbone, one across the pubic bone, some sort of solid bracket either side to connect the two, and an oval firm pad in the lower back region, connected to the front each side by a canvas strap. Can’t see what on earth it’s doing as it isn’t supporting my back at all.
Danny. I have gone from 5' 10" to 5' 6", so much the same. I hate being shorter I can't reach anything any more!! My back is also bent with scoliosis and stenosis!!
