Roughly What % Of The Population Is Trans
16 Answers
Maybe I just never noticed but don't recall Trans-gender issues were talked about much. Now right or wrong it seems to seen a s big topic. There was all the aggro about JK Rowling, the Tory leadeship debates have focused as much on Penny Mordants comments about trans women/men than on the cost of living crisis or NHS, ona recent weekend visit to London i saw lots of protestors with banners about "Rights for Trans people now".. then today on Radio 4 Money Box Live the issue was Finance for Trans people.
Roughly what % of the population is trans? Is it all out of proportion?

Some say that the tail's wagging the dog. Not 100% sure that's a tail though, Tarquina.

|t's a tiny number and most of us really don't want to hear about it all day. Like 'coming out'. What a joke. People can do what they want. We have sportsmen and women 'coming out'. Why should I care what they do in bed? We have Gay politicians, Gay horticulturalists and, doubtless pre-trans Belgians transitioning to ice lollies. How utterly tedious it all is.
In the USA, 0.58% of adults identify as transgender.

Assuming a similar figure for the UK, that's around 320,000 people.

Buen: A good point. I do, however, find it incredible that the three Blair governments maintained that one in ten people was LGBT (there was no Q or Queer then) and resources, including the National Lottery, were allocated accordingly. It was a lie and deprived of others receiving the right to receive a proper assessment of the opportunity to receive charitable funds. Eventually, under Brown, that 'guideline' was very quietly dropped and there was a reappraisal in Whitehall that a truer percentage was one in a hundred.

Since "trans" is down to the individual saying how they feel, I doubt anyone can ever know the percentage affected with certainty.
It's sad some seem to have a mismatch between the reality of their actual body and what their conscious mind can accept, but such aberrations can occur and folk should make the best life they can with their disabilities, rather than make a massive fuss in society about their issue. The world doesn't revolve around one minority. (No matter how egotistical the group is.)
