I think that I have sustained a Rotator cuff tear. The chair I went to sit on at a cafe was on a slope. The chair moved, I fell upon my left shoulder. This occurred a week ago. Lots of ibuprofen and paracetamol later. I’m still unable to lift my arm and sleeping has become very uncomfortable. It’s worse laying down. My question, any others experienced this? Will it heal? How long etc. Very painful and debilitating.
I will not frequent that cafe again.

I like your diagnosis but before applauding I think that you need to bite the bullet and go to A&E for an X-Ray to exclude a boney injury.

Will it heal? Yes, if you get the correct diagnosis and treatment.

As usual, I thank you Sqad. A&E did occur to me. Ten hours waiting, how delightful.
Yes, I know david.......you could hang on and keep your fingers crossed, continue with your self medication for say, another week...........but personally I wouldn't.
Perhaps start with your own GP?
They might be able to send you to have an x-ray without going through A&E.
My GP seems to be able to refer patients direct to x-ray. Maybe try that first.
Sqad is of course correct IMO. I had a rotator cuff injury but that was a result of falling and actually pulling my arm in the wrong way like a muscle pull not a direct hit as you've suggested. Also when I had mine they wouldn't treat me at all until I'd had an xray to check it wasn't shoulder bone injury first.

I thank all that have replied. Ten days wait for possible doctors appointments, or A&E. I will give it another week and see if there is an improvement.
10 days for a gp appointment ?. No wonder people use A&E. NHS is the pits .
At our surgery you just ring in at 8 in the morning to arrange an appointment.
david, after a week don't mess about. Get yourself to A&E, it should be fairly quiet at this time of day.
bit of a ruse - try to get an appt with a NURSE at the GP surgery, then if she thinks it's bad enough she will bring a doctor in!
Question Author
Just spoke on the telephone to a doctor. He is going to arrange an X-ray for next Wednesday. It now seems that I have a fractured humerus bone at the connection to the shoulder. I have ordered a sling from Amazon to aid and support. So it looks like I will end up in A&E as that’s where the fracture clinic is.
Thanks for the feedback David.
