Hi Sqad if you are still on.

Well never thought this would happen to me but my doctor has diagnosed arthritis of the knees. I have an appointment for an x-ray 19 Sept which could confirm that I definitely have it.

However doctor has said when he gets the results back he will give me cortisone injections.

Will they help me and how long will they last.

Thanks for your opinion Sqad

No surprise there JJ. ;-)

The injections should last at least 2 months, maybe 3 months and yes, the should help with the pain and your mobility.
Question Author
why no surprise - don't understand that
Question Author
am I looking forward to operations like another lady on here (can't remember her name) - thought automatically new knee which I would certainly dread
Well JJ, from your numerous posts, the diagnosis was quite obvious.
I'm afraid a lot of people get arthritis as they get older - wear and tear. Am waiting to see a surgeon re a hip replacement myself.
I thought you knew you had arthritis and that is why you were investigating knee replacement.
I know several folk who have lived with arthritis for years and have coped very well with the aid of cortisone injections. Replacement is very much a 'last resort'.
Question Author
Thanks Barry I am going to try living with it
Hi JJ - I hope the dr can relieve your pain with the injection but i am really posting cos I know you will be thinking all day, who is the other lady waiting on the knee op, it's Emmie that does the Good morning thread, I'm sure she won't mind me saying it
Question Author
Thanks ducksie. There is another lady who has had some operations. I know about Emmie also barsel is suffering
Oh, it was only Emmie I knew. Maybe you could ask them sometime how their treatment or care is going :)
Question Author
Ducksie. The other lady is janeym on here so numerous operations can be done
JJ, are you thinking of janeym? bednobs has also had a knee replacement although that was some years ago.
maggiebee? Scarlett?

It may be a reflection of the average of ABers but there are many who have had replacement knees or are struggling with arthritis in the knee.

Am wondering would it go away if I lost a few stones
/////rAm wondering would it go away if I lost a few stones///

We both know that that is not going to happen. -;)
It would certainly help. Being overweight puts extra strain on your knees. If you are very overweight it can also affect the way you walk putting even more strain on your hips and knees.
Question Author
Ha ha squad. Already lost one stone
Well done, JJ
i am also kind of surprised at your astonishment- what did you think was wrong with your knee?
Arthritis just means inflammation of the joint
Go for op JJ I have 1 knee replaced and waiting for my second changes your life I can tell you. All worth it in the end. I have had my knuckles done as I told you so far so good 3 weeks in now.
* a stone* ? Well done jj .
