Hi Sqad if you are still on.

Well never thought this would happen to me but my doctor has diagnosed arthritis of the knees. I have an appointment for an x-ray 19 Sept which could confirm that I definitely have it.

However doctor has said when he gets the results back he will give me cortisone injections.

Will they help me and how long will they last.

Thanks for your opinion Sqad

Hi JJ, yes it was I, Barsel that is waiting for both knees to be replaced.
I was offered the operation a year ago but turned it down so I could try other things like acupuncture, steroid injections and physio but to no avail.
Now I am back on the waiting list wishing I had had it done a year ago. I've gone from struggling to walk to hardly able to walk at all as both knees are now constantly giving way.
I'm pretty sure you will be offered injections first and I can tell you that sometimes they last from several months to a year or not at all.
It probably depends on how bad your knees are, and in my case the injections don't work at all now.
Also, I don't know if Sqad will agree with me here but the injections you get at the hospital are superior to any that your GP can give you, I know that from experience and also because the Consultant told me.
Let us know how you get on.

thanks Barsel for your opinion. Indeed I have heard that the "shots" you get from hospital are much superior - in fact they are known as the Golden Shots.

I told my doctor this and he has told me that he will do his best. This is a locum doctor so I will give him a go.

Will wait and see.
Gold injections (they really contain gold compound) can be very helpful to people with arthritis but I don't know if they are still available.
i was told that injections wouldn't be useful or indeed an option.
I am still waiting to hear about surgery.... this could be a long wait.
Strange isn't it, I have the same problem but my doctor hasn't mentioned injections to me
my consultant/surgeon told me it wouldn't be advisable, nor useful.
our meeting was brief...
Gold Injections are for Rheumatoid arthritis and rarely if ever used today. Most of the AB posts relate to Osteoarthritis, but certainly, not all.

The injection is the same, both in hospital and GP, but the techniques may differ ;-)

Thanks for clearing that confusion re gold injections for me, Sqad.
No problem barry, your opinions and posts are valued on AB.
It was JJ referring to 'golden shots' that reminded me of the gold injections.
