Help, I Have Done Something Stupid And Am Scared About Sepsis

I tried to pop a blackhead the other day on the end of my nose to not much avail.

Today I noticed a soft bulge as though the spot had developed into a boil

I squeezed and and lots and lots of blood, fluid and a bit of pus came out. I was worried about losing too much blood.

I suddenly developed a bit of a headache on the top of my head after popping it and after googling realised that you are not supposed to pop spots in that area (the nose) as it can lead to further infection and sepsis.

I am worried now and feel sick

I have put some tcp and a plaster on it but I am worried about sepsis

Sorry to go on but it was more than a pimple it was like a bubble with lots of blood and fluid in.

Keep the affected area clean and dry. See your GP if it doesn't settle. Seek urgent medical attention in the presence of any infective or fever-like symptoms.

In the meantime, have a cup of tea and don't worry about it.

Contact your GP this morning as this will certainly need antibiotics due to the area of infection.
Extremely unlikely to cause serious complications, but don't take the chance.

And in future stop squeezing spots, just clean the skin with an antibacterial anti spot treatment face wash then let them burst or reabsorb on their own. Try not to cover them with concealer unless you really have to.

Do not worry, infection is unlikely if it is clean. The TCP or disinfectant will clean the area, and left open to the air it will heal quickly.

I detest the smell of TCP.

Tea Tree would probably be better - it's antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal.

I think they only stop if they are struck off although they do have to prove professional development every so many years to maintain on their register. Similar to nurses who are removed from the register after three years out of clinical practice. It's why I always refer to my nursing in the past tense although I still have the qualifications I can no longer work in a clinical setting.

Thanks all. I have contacted the gp as advised for antibiotics but they are full and told me that someone from another health centre would ring me tomorrow afternoon : /

My relative offered me some of her unused doxycycline but might be better just waiting:D

Do not take another persons unused antibiotic. It might not be the right one and you will not have enough for a full treatment

If you're going to take an antibiotic, Flucloxacillin would be the first choice.

Don't take someone else's meds.

TCL - hardly! He told me in 2009 that he was in his late eighties so by my reckoning he's over 100 now... ;)

I had in my mind he was at least an octogenarian and that was from a few year ago.
