Stents In Heart

Can they put a stent in the heart if it is 100% blocked or is a bypass the only option. tia

Hi bongoboy, from what I am told, a 100% blockage is possible to treat with a stent or angioplasty but is very challenging skillwise, a bypass may be preferable.

Not a medic - so can't answer with authority - OH had blocked arteries and ended up with a bypass.  I believe stents are for partial blockages.  Consult someone with real  know-how for a definitive answer, but that is the best I can offer.

Thank you dagman, got told today I have 2 blocked and 1 partially blocked the only clear one was the one i had a bypass on 18 years ago. Waiting to be moved to St Thomas hospital to see what they are going to do with me. Wondered if things have changed in the last 18 years, or anyone on here might have experienced recently.

Hi bongoboy, I had a stent and angioplasty 3 years ago, doc told me I was a mild case so bypass wasn't needed, I'm sure over the last 18 years things will have moved on regarding a bypass. All the best whichever route you choose.

summed up - he may  wish to unblock it ( stent) or  he may not

and yes, over the last 20 y, cardiac radiology has become a huge specialty
