I have  occasional streaks of lightening in corners of my eyes more noticeable when it is dark.

any one else had them. It's very alarming.

Thank you yes it could be aging process as article suggests rather than something serious.

Don't panic, it's quite normal, I occasionally get this curved line of 'Christmas tree lights' in my vision, (goes after about 20 minutes) I finally went to an opthalmic surgeon who photographed somehow the back of my eyes and showed me the resulting picture which is slight 'bump' in something which should be smooth - sorry can't explain better, but she said she had the same thing herself.

Don't just take my word for it though of course, and have it checked. The procedure isn't pleasant though and requires having eye drops which leave you with very blurred vision for a couple of hours. I staggered across town like drunk to get a taxi home, as I was on my own.

Khandro...that actually sounds like an ocular migraine. Did the floating lights drift across your field of vision until gone?

Anyway...I get them several times a year. Always gone in 15-20 minutes.

pasta, no, it comes as a banana shaped curve usually to the side of my vision like a strip of twinkling lights, could be brought on by eye-strain ( I do a lot of drawing) I normally relax in a chair or lie on the bed & it goes in about 20 minutes. 

This doesn't happen that often, maybe once every 2 or three months. I was shown the pictures of a section through the back of my eye with a blip in one of the layers- amazing what can be done now. 

It was explained to me in German & I can't remember what it was called. But the main thing is it isn't a problem.

But as I've already said, I'm not diagnosing the OP.

Hi again khandro. That sounds different...but interesting. Mine also lasts about 20 minutes, but starts as a "blind spot" in my field of vision.

Sorry for digression hannah40...I hope you've found an explanation for your lights. I get similar when I've been looking at a screen too much and my eyes are tired.

Not long after my transient ischaemic attack (TIA, mini stroke) last June which resulted in the loss of my driving licence (owing to a blind spot in my vision, same in both eyes as it was the brain which is affected) I began to get occasional scenic flashes. This I put down to my brain (as I believe it does in mobility issues) trying to recover from stroke damage. I am going to put this theory to my optician at my next annual check up.
