Paracetamol

I find my doctor and anywhere I go there aplenty of paracetamol.  I would not take them as they do not help any illnesses/aches or pain.

Does anybody else feel the same.  They are hopeless so I don't know why they even make/produce them.

i do not find the same.  They are a very good anti-pyretic and painkiller (for me at least)

when i was post-surgery i had some iv paracetamol and that was really good too.  We have the 1g tablets here, plus suppositories, so i am well covered :)

For many people paracetamol doesn't work, particularly for chronic pain.

where do you live and I will send you mine.  I've told doctor to stop putting them into my prescription but lo and behold they are still there.

in england, they do not prescibe paracetamol tablets and you are supposed to buy your own.  mind you they are only 16p a packet

read your link Hoppy - and so overall generally they aren't the greatest - so why waste electricity, chalky stuff, making them, putting them into the little packets etc etc etc - such a waste of money

no - my new doctor has a different system.  some time ago they gave me too many pills and I returned them completely unopened and they wouldn't accept them back.

And even if they are stupid enough not to, they have the bother of getting rid of them rather than you.

They probably can't re-use them because pharmacies have the annoying habit of sticking a very sticky label, showing the patient's details, on every box or packet they dispense.

I am in England and have paracetamol prescribed, and they work for me.

I have 200 paracetamol on my repeat prescription list. Paracetamol is my first go to for pain and works well for me. When I need it, I take the maximum daily amount so having 200 on repeat saves me going to the pharmacy every few days. My GP was the person who added them to my repeat list.

I don't request them every time my repeat requests come round, I only tick the medication I need, in fact I've not requested paracetamol for a while but they're still on my repeat meds list for when I need to.

sorry vagus, yes you're right, it's an expectation that people wil buy their own for short term pain, not long term stuff

They may be on your repeat prescription list, but do you not have to tick which items you are requesting?

Simply don't tick paracetamol.

 

It is absolutely right that once you have taken them, they can't reuse them if you take them back.

 

They have no way of checking the items you return are genuine. Some idiots might substitute a poison or counterfeit item.

As straight painkillers they don't really do much for me. I've always had better results with Anadin/Nurofen. However they're very good for flu symptoms and worked very well when I had Covid.

Generally speaking, I use paracetamol.  However, I have prescribed Co-codamol (30 codein/500 paracetamol) for when my back plays up.

I MUST say that to be discharged from hospital 36 hours after a difficult and complicated hip-repair operation with a packet of paracetamol and some codeine (made me constipated - don't ask; not nice when my gluteous maximus had been carved though) and no other recourse to pain control............this was not exactly 1st world pain control.

I am in a position to compare, having had had 2 hip replacements in France where I did not have ANYTHING LIKE the pain - in fact I would have classed them as painless.

In UK a bit of paper said 'You have had major surgery, you must expect pain.'  The equivalent in France promised, 'Pain is not necessary and is counterproductive'.

This is 3rd world butchery. I am now frightened of surgery - I wasn't before.

^^ Sorry for rant - but the contrast is horrible, I'm still suffering and people should know that pain is unnecessary.

perhaps Jourdain you could ask/insist your doctor for a stronger pain killer after what you have been through

my friend who has relocated to her daughter's house got a bunion and 4 toes straightened with pins last week so she is in a lot of pain but today I spoke with her and her doctor had given her pure codeine (don't ask what that is).  

But I will be calling round to see her next week and know more.  Hope you feel a little better Jourdain.  There is nothing like pain that makes you miserable.

they don't do much for me. Ibuprofen work better but are not good for my already low platelet levels. I just have to try not to get hurt.
