I had a stent fitted back in '09. My artery was 20% functional, whch caused my heart attack. With the stent fitted, it is now 80% functional.

They also fit stents to ureters and I think they're more likely to be removed than arterial ones. If your friend has had problems with kidney stones they might have fitted one to help them clear away.

ta  for  all the  info \ she  had  a  kidney  transplant  3  weeks  ago   still on  dialisis   3  times  a  week/plus  blood  tests/   stent   out  on  3  july  /she  is  about  5.2  in  weight   height 5.2         she  looks  awfully  weak

It looks like the stent was fitted just to make sure the new kidney could drain properly. They clearly think that the kidney is draining properly so feel they can remove the stent. It's a straightforward procedure with no intrusive surgery although she might have a general anaesthetic (I did).

yup - think of a metal coil up it in the  wall so it remains open whatever.

the stent here is to keep the (whatsit) open as this is known to decrease the level  of kidney failure.
