Why?

Why do men play with themselves? I have a friend who is nearly 50, and he seems to subconsciously "rub" his groin with his thumb at every opportunity, when sitting down. I have known several other men who do this too. To me, that seems gross, and makes me feel uncomfortable. But they do not seem to be doing it in any sexual way.

Can anyone shed light on why they do this?

It may just be subconcious body touching - but he seems to be zeroing in on some 'unsuitable' bits.

Other men do it because they are uncomfortable - physically that is - a colleague of mine has confided that the tip of his penis is sore - no reason given - but he constantly gives it quick scratches, and I'm sure he is totally unaware he is doing it.

Personally, I don't play with my bits, I don't have that gene. Similarly, I don't belch, fart, or pick my nose anywhere where there is even the slightest possibility of being observed by any other human being - but I think I may be in a bit of a minority here!

My DH claims it is unconcious but then admits that he doesn't do it at work (he is a school teacher so God help him if he did). Consequently from the minute he walks in the door he is fiddling and it drives me potty.

Just a thought, a blast from the past, maybe he's an ex squaddie, the overalls we were issued with had pockets with a slit next to tham, and we were told by the senior NCO's that when cold, put your hands through the slit, and around your private parts, because they were the warmest part of your body. don't know about the nipple thing though, not really my scene.
