Old Wives Tale?

Chatting to an old friend yesterday about things our mother's used to say. My mother told us as kids that everyone has a "Lousebag" just underneath the scalp which is known to burst thus causing infestation. I was suprised to learn that my friends mum had told her exactly the same thing! I had never believed it. Has anyone else heard of this? Thanks.

..nope never heard of that one I must say...though my mother used to tell me not to smile at any toads as this would turn my teeth to wood!!!!... everytime I saw a frog ( I wasn't sure if it was a toad or frog ...but just to be on the safe side) I'd clamp my mouth shut and go running off.....can't see the point of this one as there arn't any killer toads around, so can't see what the danger was...if it aint one thing, it's your mother...

Thanks for your replies all. I even Googled it! I dont think mine or my friends mum were talking bull****. they were more than likely told this themselves by their mothers as in "Old Wives Tales". No undercovers,my mum was'nt fond of a drink and is sadly gone from us. I found it hard to believe too but I did'nt ask for my mum to be insulted.

sorry for any offence i was only having a tease... i enjoy thinking back to all the odd things my old mum used to come up with every so often, her favourite quirk was to say something entirely random (like a fox wouldn't ask twice ... or something like that) and then claim it was a saying! used to drive me potty... AND i have just remembered this i used to ask her what things like bugs etc i found in the garden were called - and she's just name them herself - cue me years later having loads of kinds in school laughing at me as i try and argue that a stag beetle is called an Emily Beetle or some such thing...

questioned her sanity regularly but wouldn't chage her.

Again sorry if you thought i was being rude to your mum it really wasn't my intention,
