sedation on Monday!

I wrote some time ago about having some teeth removed by sedation (not asleep but drowsy) at the dentist. Well, my appointment was cancelled but it's finally here on Monday. I'm really dreading it - any kind words will help and people who were kind enough to write before who've had this done- please tell me again what it's like.My daughter said she saw someone have this on the telly and they were talking to the dentist all the time! I'm worried that I'm going to start shouting or swearing (if I'm doped up!) or lose control of my bodily functions or something equally awful and then there's the pain...! N00000!!!

When I was 20 I had my wisdom teeth taken out....by sedation.

I asked the dentist when he was gonna do the op and he said hed finished.

I was shocked...never been sedated b4...it was as quick and easy as that 4 me.....turns out it took 20mins...and I didnt notice any of it.

Two weeks later I had to get the other 2 wisdom teeth out and it was the same.

As long as youve got someone responsible with you to drive you and make sure you walk in a straight line.

I had my tooth taken out with sedation and I was out like a light. I had this very vauge dream like understanding that my tooth was being pulled, but could not feel a thing. You are basically asleep, and after your tooth is taken out you will not even know until you wake up in the recovery room. Have no fear, you wont understand a thing, and the only reason the other person was talking to the dentist is for TV reasons they probably gave her a lower dose of the seadtive, which is something they wont do to you.

My body does not respond to dental block so i have to have sedation every time i get a filling or tooth out which is better for me as i am less nervous, and thankfully unaware of the procedure taking place. Im such a wuss!

Im really scared of the dentist .. i have to be sedated for everything! lol...youl be ok mydogsandme - honestly, you wonr feel anything or remember anything x

my son who is 10 is having 1 tooth out a month due to over crowding all he has is a needle to numb the gum and some gas he has had three taken out so far and needs to have atleast another 2, he is very brave and says he hardly feeels anything he has never cried.

I was advised to give him paracetamol before he has the treatment and to use a anticeptic mouth wash for 2 or 3 days before.

Try not to worry you'll have more pain the following couple of days than the actually treatment if my little boy can do it anyone can.Let us now how you get on.

Not my teeth, but I had an operation at the back of my eye, a few months ago, with local anaesthetic and sedation - I couldn't see as he was operating although my eye was open, and I kept drifting off and thinking those funny thoughts when you are just going off to sleep. I could hear them all talking in the operating theatre, I was even speaking to them (although like you they weren't operating inside my mouth !) but when it was finished, I got up absolutely fine, thought the op lasted around ten minutes but it was one and a half hours. Brilliant.

Hi patricia- thanks for asking. In the end I only had one tooth removed as it took him an HOUR to get it out!! Apperently I have really big teeth and roots and a tinsy-bitsy mouth! I'm going back next week to have another couple out- one of them is giving me pain now and then possibly one more appointment after that. I'm so glad I went for the sedation though, as no way could I have sat in a chair that long- even the dentist agreed. He's going to regret the day he saw me!! The sedation itself was fine though, I just felt woozy after and the next day.I'll be very glad when it's all finished though. I'll keep you updated- thanks again.
