Can anyone help me re a numb tongue following anaesthetic?

Recently I had surgery to remove my gall bladder. The surgical procedure went really well but following the operation my mouth was incredibly dry and my tongue was completely numb - so much so that I could not feel my teeth at all. In the night I even had difficulty breathing due to the dryness. The surgeon at the time, and my GP since, have both said that this is unusual and probably due to the trauma of having the anaesthetic tube down my throat. They think that it will heal in time but after 3 weeks, although there is a very slight improvement, the problem remains and my tongue is still numb at the end. Has anyone else had a similar experience and can help?

I had the same years ago G. It was the pre med that numbed my tongue and it scared the life out of me as I could'nt speak. The dry mouth is normal after any op,especially when coming around..Water,water:--) I hope it wears off soon for you.

Hi again G, I think you should go back to your doc. My numbness only lasted until after the op. Tell your doc about the numbness still being with you. If the consultant and your doc already told you its unusual then all the more reason to back. Maybe you could go on a water inducing med for the dry mouth. Good luck:-))
