Who has used a chiropractioner to treat a back problem? What did they do? How many treatments did you need and was it effective?

It totally took care of it after about 4 months, but I had the pinched nerves for over a year prior to the chiropracter. The pinching happened less often after the 3rd visit.
He would put this electromagnetic machine on my back and it causes the muscles to tighten and release. He used hot and cold compresses. He always cracked my neck and spine, turning my body and lifting my legs in all different directions. And he also massages a bit. It's very relaxing.
I went about twice a week, and I also went to a message therepist twice a month.
I have been to one when I had bad back,it was far better than going to the doctors, all they do is tell you to rest or give you drugs, The chiropractor talked to me for about 20 minutes to build up a history of lifestyle etc then it was a sort of relaxing massage ,it didn't hurt at all i had about 4 visits and no problem afterwards, if you are thinking of going to one, GO don't hesitate I am sure you won't regret it.
Good luck, Ray
Beware!!
Not trying to be alarmist. This works for some but please read the article first. I was told a long time ago by two different physiotherapists that they consider both chiropacters and osteopaths to be unsafe. I have stuck with physios ever since having a bad time with an osteopath. Each to their own I guess
I would totally recommend it, I see a McTimotey chiropracter every other month now, orginially for around 3 months it was every week and now its gradully got longer and longer between appointments,
its really saved me from surgery, it does work and is more holistic, they realign your skelton. The look through your medical history.
Try it, its well worth it
A few years ago, as a result of my job (postman oddly enough) I used to suffer terribly with my back. The doctor was as good as useless, prescribing anti inflammatories and time of work, time off that I did not really want and could ill afford.
There was a time when I was in constant pain - I wasn't immobile, but every movement hurt, and I decided enough was enough. I had an initial consultation with a chiropractor, including a x ray which showed a very bent spine, an initial treatment, and then a course of treatment. YES it was expensive, but it was my health. At the end of my course, I couldn't believe it as I could do things I had not done in years. I was walking taller, feeling better and miles fitter.
I actually felt better - and then progresively so - after the first treatment, which is basically manipulation of the spine and neck. I found the neck one a bit frightening actually, as he snaps it. By "frightening" it's not that it's painful (it isn't) it's just that it is close to actually breaking a neck as they do in films, and the spine treatment is a combination of pushing and pulling the discs back to how they should be. It actually seems like it's money for old rope because each treatment doesn't last long, but - and it's a big but - it works.
I wouldn't hesitate in recommending you try.
