I've had cystitis before - it's best to take the pills if you can because they will ease the pain and get rid of the problem quickly. Other things you can do to speed up the process is drink masses of water, avoid anything acidic - ie fruit and fruit juices for a while. It'll mean going to the loo loads, but the more you pee (sorry!) the more you'll be doing to flush the germs out.

It's not very pleasant, but unfortunately, it's just one of those things which us women can catch (I know men can get it too, but it's very rare).

As for your camping trip, I'd take a torch as you might be making quite a few trips to the loo in the middle of the night. But hopefully within 48 hrs of taking the tablets you should feel a whole lot better.

If it is Cystitis you can get some Miss Pos sit (sorry not sure how to spell it, but the pharmacy will know) I think this is nurses slang for some potassium mixture that is great, also drink loads of water, and also Cranberry juice. However the tablets should work. Water is the key, to dilute your urine and flush any infection out (possibly old wives tale, but works). I always find it easier putting water into a bottle, gets you more into habit of drinking it. Hope it goes soon, it is awful. Best of luck.

Thanx both of you,i am stupidly sitting here with a glass of coke, not gonna help is it??I'll pick tablets up tomorrow and drink water all day, hopefully i''ll see some mprovement asap!!

Yeah - you're gonna hate the taste of water by noon tomorrow. Normally they say try to drink 2 ltrs of water a day, if you have cystitis I'd go for 3 ltrs - and no more coke!

Best of luck and have a great time camping :0)

try and stay away from sugary foods and alchol too while you have cystitis makes it worse.
sorry i cant spell at this time of the morning!!

Cystitis seems to be one of those things that once you've had it it can recur.

There are things you can do to stop it coming back. Cranberry juice is good but it can be hard to remember to drink it every (or most) day(s). Seven Seas do a supplement called cranberry forte - if you take one of those a day the cystitis shouldn't come back.

Happy camping.

I have tried all the usual remedies - water, cranberry juice, sachets that you buy at the chemist etc

The only thing that worked for me was a dose of antibiotics from the doctor

Morning Kipchik, This may sound crazy and you probably have to be desperate to try it, but put some natural yoghurt on a sanitary towel...! it is supposed to relieve the burning sensation! good luck and i hope you find some relief!
Hi Kipchik. Caz21 is right, natural yoghurt does sooth the stinging. Ive had cystitis only once in my life (15 years ago) and it was agony! So its not always true that it does recur. I didnt take pills but drank loads of cranberry juice and it was practically gone overnight. Cranberry juice is a regular in my diet now because of all the goodness in it, which may explain why I dont suffer from bladder infections.
