Baljit, for how long has this been going on? Have you had any health problems that might account for the hair loss?

There could be any number of causes for your plight. One suggestion would be to examine your diet. Are you getting enough protein?

An inadequate amount of protein will often cause hair loss - that was my problem. I didn't have clumps falling out spontaneously, but every time I brushed it or just ran my hands through it, large amounts of hair would come out. And it was very dull and broke easily. I increased my protein intake to almost double (and improved my overall nutrition), and that eliminated the excessive loss. Plus, the hair quality improved too - a strong and glossy coat. :->
If you have long hair then the natural amount of hair loss is more noticable than if you had short hair.
If you are actually developing bald patches then speak to your GP as it could be a diet problem.
Are you sure it is not simply a result of constantly pulling your hair in to a too tight pony tail, especially if you use the sort of bands that snag your hair?
trim the ends off you hair. ask a friend or relative to do it, just a little amount to snip of. no need to go an pay someone to do this because it's simple to do.
If your hair is coming out in clumps then i would seek proffesional attention. However if it just a few hairs a day, that is quite normal as the average human can lose anything from 50-several hundred hairs a day.
My doc friend has told me that if you go to see your GP - they would be able to refer you to dermatology who MAY be able to help you in some way. Other than that - if you can afford it, go to see a trichologist - look one up in your area on the internet. They charge about 40 - 70 per session but will have likely seen your problem many times and have dealt with it. Good Luck x
