Amazingly I was discussing this very subject yesterday with Spudqueen and she became really concerned for my sanity! The good news is that we are all of us not mad, just highly inventive and curious, and these thoughts all part of the process of discovery and testing our limitations. This is something we seem to be programmed do from birth, and kids are often quite naughty out of the pure principle of seeing what will happen when.........
In order to know that we shouldn't step off the balcony, we have to actively think about doing so first, and then remind ourselves to stop, but we have to have the 'falling off' thought first, and evidently we shouldn't dwell on that idea for too long! Presumably lemmings haven't evolved yet to get to that highly vital 'second idea' - pity!
The mobile phone on the bridge thing is an absolute classic and I think somebody should invent the 'floating mobile' just in case too many of us can't resist this urge! In fact I've got three old mobiles so maybe I should just get it out of my system. I think it would be quite nice though if they were all ringing as they went over....
Great post.
