Could you take your index finger and use it to locate where your ribs meet in the middle, then travel downwards and see if you can feel an inch-long, gristly springy thing that points down. If you find one, could you tell me if you have ever noticed it before and possibly what it is? I went to the doctor and she told me it was a bone, but I have never noticed it before a few weeks ago, and I am sure it is growing. Is it normal? thanks
Its a piece of cartilage attached to the Sternum (the bone that joins your ribs in front) . I think you must be slim to be able to feel yours though, I'm much too fat. It really is normal though. If you ever get to see a medical skeleton, you will see this part quite distinctly.
Thanks, so I'm not dying then?
cat, thanks, by the way, you should read the new Gideon Defoe novel - Pirates! in an adventure with Whaling.
ray, or should I say Robin Asquith, Oo-er!
bigsister, thank you , and yes I am a bit scrawny.
red, ok.
whiffey, you are a hot peppered genius .
The place (not) to go prodding around looking for lumps is in your abdomen. You will find massive tumours everywhere. Also try palpating your liver to see if you are in imminent liver failure, see if you have an enlarged spleen, massage your own prostate, there's so much waiting to be discovered. lol.
I can feel this too ~ and I am quite fat so that pleased me :o)
I remember first feeling this and talking to my mum about it..she found hers on the same day, and later on I got a phone call from my aunt who was asking about this 'funny lump which hurts when you press it'.
