Citalopram...

Does anyone have any experience of these tablets?

My sister has been prescribed them and I'd like to know if anyone has any personal experience with them please?

I was prescribed these a few years ago but had to come off them very quickly.

I had a horribly dry mouth, which was constant, and dreadful hot flushes. I also had tremors in the hands.

I was prescribed Prozac instead and they suited me much better.

But of course, they affect different people differently.

I am on Citalopram and they suit me just fine. I have had no adverse effects from them and they have made me feel infinitely better.

However, I was given Prozac some years ago and they made me feel like a zombie and totally indifferent to everything and everyone around me.

This just illustrates what Ethel has said, these things have different effects on different people.

I'm with Aprilis on this - I have taken Citlopram daily for about the last eight years, and they keep me balanced. Prozac reacted very badly on me, but as both AB'ers confirm, different anti-depressants suit different people.

It will takew two to three weeks for the meication to settle properly in your sister's system, so avise her to be patient. If she gets side-effects, and they last beyond this time, tell her to consult her GP who will either change the dose, or the prescription, but do tell her not to adust the dose herself, or to stop taking the tablets - very important.

Hi whiskeysheri, I've been taking Citalopam for over 2 years and they have been fine for me, like a lot of the post here everyone is different. X X X ;-)

They worked for me too babe, although I don't take them any more. I'm sure your sis will be fine, cos she's got you to support her as well ;)

I was on them for 3 years. I needed them for the first 2 years, and they worked great while I needed them. The final year was trying to get off them, that gave me vertigo! I had already dropped from 20mg a day to 10mg with no problems, then tried one every otherday, that was great, but after that was a nightmare, I could harldy leave the house without everything spinning and needing to hold on to something. Should this happen to your sister tell her to request liquid form, which you can dispense in 1mg drops as needed to wean herself off gradually. My doctor didn't even know it existed in liquid form, a bit of research on t'internet on my part found out.
