Can anyone explain to me why, when I see someone doing housework, or cleaning the office, my state of mind becomes very relaxed? The feeling is particularly strong, if the person doing the cleaning / polishing is doing it with such meticulous attention to detail. I don't necessarily need to be looking at them, just the sheer presence of someone in the same room as me polishing desks, phones, furniture, or even hoovering, is enough to send me into an almost hypnotic trance.

Or am I just a weirdo?

No, you'r not a weirdo.

My guess is that it awakes a subconscious feeling of comfort from your childhood when your mother was doing all those thankless household tasks while you were playing with your toys.

sgnd. Seigmund Wildwood.

It sends me into a trance too, as does watching a child do colouring in, and watching people doodling while on the phone. And it's such a lovely, peaceful trance too.

Though isn't it horrible when they stop, and move into another room :)

I think wildwood's answer is spot on. That makes so much sense. Wouldn't it be nice if you could turn this feeling on and off yourself...
