my dad has quite a few birth mark like growths on his neck and his side, for a few years now. they vary in size from tiny to the size of a pea, all of them dark brown. a doctor said it's called 'veruca seborrhea' or something like that. he said he doesn't know the reason for their being or a way to get rid of them... they don't hurt just not very pleasing for the eye and of course annoying that we cannot get rid of them.
has anyone heard of them before? or knows anything what could we do???
thanks for any advice.

Another name is seborrhoeic keratosis, annamaria.

They are harmless, pigmented wart-like growths that most commonly occur on the trunk, but may also affect the head, neck and, less commonly the hands and forearms. The are common in elderly people, and may appear singly or in groups.

cont./
The growths are painless but occasionally itchy. Scratching them can cause soreness. Brown or black in colour, either flat or raised.

If it is these, they may be removed by scraping or cutting them off, or by freezing them. It will leave little or no scarring.

If your dad is concerned, he could always get a second opinion from another doctor.

Hope this helps - but remember this is only an assumption on my part, by what you have described.
