My friend's tongue has recently become ultra sensitive to foods that are spicy, peppery or salty. It feels like she has burned it and it takes several days for it to heal. In the past these same foods have never caused her problems. What might be the cause of this? Thank you.

has she had a recent course of antibiotics that can sometimes make the tongue red and smooth and sensitive
Hi Circ Sister, I had a similar problem a while back - I had lots of tests and in the end it turned out to be a Vitamin Deficiency.

I had very low levels of Vitamin B12 ....

If the problem persists it might be a good idea to suggest that your friend goes to her GP for a Blood test.

Regards, Mort
