the consultant tells me that a lump above my knee is a lypoma. its too small to cut out, the scar would be worse than the symptoms but it hurts. anyone else had this and did it go away or get bigger et? and what about the pain management?. im still a bit worried in case its something else but he said he was pretty certain it was nothing to worry about.

They are painful when they are small but tend to grow larger and become less painful. Had them removed purely for cosmetic reasons as they are not dangerous- just inconvenient really ! Basically they are benign tumours of fatty tissue.
How long have you had it ?

They can grow quite large if not removed surgically. My Hubby had one removed from the underside of his left forearm which was about 5 ins by 2ins. He is left handed so it affected his writing !!
They are most common on legs/arms/trunk however can grow on face, head and buttocks apparently .
Sorry to scare you !
They do tend to be quite painful ,as I sad, when smaller but I am afraid it won't disappear if it is a lipoma.

I had one removed from my shoulder/neck area about 13 years ago.
Did not cause any problems until it got large and then my shoulder started to ache quite a lot.
It took about a month after the op before I could lift properly but no problems since.
It will not go away without surgery so get it removed if you can.
