We (ok I) give presents from the tree (for me, husband, 2 children, Mum & Step-Dad and I send my sisters and her husband in Australia for them to put on their tree), which I put on the tree and we usually open Xmas night teatime once all the presents have long been opened. I usually look around the shops for small items like nail files, little books etc..
How about small token things like "World's best Husband" keyrings, fridge magnets etc.. Some little packets of chocolate (luxury ones like Thorntons) small bottle of whiskey/fav spirit, small notebook etc.
The whole point for us is that they are just silly gifts to finish Xmas off just nicely :o)
I like your idea tho and may secretly do my husband a stocking as I don't think he used to get one as a child.

oooh, wingnut they are some good ideas.
i love giving my husband one at christmas (so to speak!!!!) we normally open ours quietly together when we go to bed christmas eve night which is normally after midnight anyway and then we watch the kids open theirs in the morning. He knows that stockings were my favourite part of christmas when I was little, I loved my stockking things more than the other things and he never used to get one so it is kinda quiet special for us. Thank you for those ideas, I have written them in my secret book already!
and sorry to have to start early, but is have 5 children, 10 nieces and nephews, 4 siblings and their partners both sets of parents and grandparents and extended members....so the list is long I have to get started now and be more frugal than ever this year so can't afford to not plan. You are a star you guys, I am most appreciative!!!!!
merry christmas.

I don't blame you for starting early mimififi, I need to this year too!! Not only do I have Christmas coming up, I also have my sister and my nephew's birthday next month(which are on the same day!!), My sister's first wedding anniversary the week after, then a gap till December in which it is my nan's b-day, my brother in law's a week later and my mum's five days before Christmas!!! It's an absolute nightmare!!!
Hi mimififi,
I know what you mean starting early In 18th and 20th are nephews birthdays , Christmas Day, and then Boxing Day is my son's Birthday!!!
I'm very careful now not to put 'junk' jokey type stocking fillers as you end up wondering what to do with them in February. I look out for cheap CD's of old albums he used to have, books, shower gel, bottle of beer, chocolate, etc He actually quite likes socks he's says they are boring but a traditional part of Christmas - one year I didn't get any and he complained!!
Considering when you both open your stocking what about - stockings, small bottle of bubbly, and a bow to put round your neck!! I can't think of any red blooded male who wouldn't like that!

Ye Gods - haven't finished my summer holidays yet and some people are already planning Christmas. You're more oranised than I am !!
How about one of those "wind up" torches which are now becoming popular? No bulbs, no batteries, so it will last a lifetime and can be safely left in the car for emergencies knowing that when you breakdown three years hence, the batteries won't have corroded and the torch will still work.. They cost between 5 - 10. Some even have a point where you can plug in your mobile phone to recharge it.

Thank you for all the suggestions people have given. They are certainly what I was looking for. Hellion: I know what you mean about jokey things, exactly what do you do with them afterwards?
Loobie, I know exactly how you feel. My daughter's birthday is december 22; my father-in-laws is the 20 of december and my other daughter's is 4 of jan so I have to have her sorted before christmas aswell. It IS a nightmare if you leave it to christmas.
For all the others who felt the need to comment on how I shouldn't be talking about christmas now frankly; if you don't like to be organised, you didn't have to read this question did you. For the imput you gave, I wish you hadn't. Whether you like it, christmas happens and you can make it easy or you can make it hard. I prefer to make it easy. And I am well aware that it is august; that is precisely why I am christmas shopping, Derrrr Brain.
