I wouldnt say its very easy but meditation is like most things, the more you do it the better you get at it. You can use a basic relaxation technique to get started. Sit in a chair (not on your bed or you might fall asleep) dont cross your arms or legs and breath in thru your nose and out through your mouth. Starting with your feet, imagine they are warm and relaxed. Work your way up slowly through every body part until you reach your head and just think about how warm and relaxed you feel. It should keep the thoughts at the back of your head. ps dont fight the the thoughts, you only encourage them and stress yourself out trying to ignore them, let them drift in but dont pay them any attention.
I don't know of any easy ways. Meditation (and clearing the mind of thoughts) is one of the most difficult things I have ever tried to do. I think perseverence is the only answer. If you try to do it every day for a long time (months, at least) you will gradually learn to stop all those thoughts intruding. Good luck!
Also - it does seem to make it easier to do and to stick at if you meditate in a group. There may be meditation groups in your area that you could join.
Relax, contemplate your breathing mechanism and how simply perfect it is; slow it down some; then begin counting, from 1 to 10; You visualise the number 1, see its shape, visualise it written as o-n-e as well; Make an effort to do that for about 6 seconds then move on to the number 2, and onwards to 10.. if at any point you get 'internal chatter' go back to the beginning; Think about your breathing, visualise the number 1 etc. if at any point you get 'internal chatter' go back to the beginning; Think about your breathing, visualise the number 1 etc. This is a useful method for overcoming sleep evasion [insomnia] as well :-)
