i have blue eyes is this the reason i sneeze when ever i look at the sun, i know a sneeze is a reflex action but i cant figure out what causes this reflex and what the purpose of the sneeze is for
A sneeze is a reflex triggered by stimulation of the membranes in the nose, resulting in a forceful expulsion of air through the mouth and nose. A "reflex" means that some type of stimulation of your body causes you to react in a way that is NOT under your control, in other words you do it automatically without thinking and you cant even stop it.
...as for the sunlight thing, it appears that up to 25% of the worlds population sneeze when they look at the sun. And it's not just the sun either, any bright light can trigger the sneeze reflex. I saw a sneeze experiment on TV the other week and one guy did sneeze after having a bright torch waved in his face. It actually is a little more complicated than i can explain so i hope this link puts your mind (and nose) at rest!
