Why not try Deepheat spray or cream? I think atheletes use this or something similar... but be careful how much you put on as its VERY strong and it tends to stink too, but I quite like the smell. ;D
It really depends on why you have a back pain, I imagine you have had it checked out?
I always used bags of frozen peas, works a treat. I have also been told to use haemorrhoid cream, supposed to be excellent, but I think you will need to rum it on your back lol
I tend to use heat on my lower back ,as it is just more comfortable. I do however also use a pain relief gel from Boots (Boots own), which I think is the best I have ever found. I use the same product in spray form for my knees (waiting for two knee replacement ops, hence they are usually very painful). You can use the spray on your back also. It works very quickly. There are several other gels you can get from the chemist, but you can also have them prescribed by your doctor, one being Power Gel. Make sure you are sitting correctly and when bending down, bend with your knees (if they are ok). That will help also. Hope you feel better soon.
Ratter, my back goes every now and then, it`s a waste of time going to the docs as he just used to prescribe Diazepam everytime, and I don`t fancy forking out 40 a time for a chiropractor.
I`ve tried the deepheat and Ibulieve gels but they don`t seem to make any difference
Crete, you obviously never had a good rumming, nothing quite like it, ask the other half to give a good all over rum, especially with hemorrhoid cream!!!
Elvis68, you will probably think I am mad, but take up yoga, I promise it will work. I thought it was just for ageing hippies when I was told to do it,. It sorted me out after just 6 sessions 4 years ago I haven't had a problem since, I suffered for 15 years with pack problems.
I know its a bit oddball, have a couple of private sessions (one on one) just to start and get a feel for it. I thought I would have been the last person in the world to be doing Yoga, I tried purely from desperation. I haven't done it since and i got no problems now.
Me?..Yoga?..surely you jest...lol
I was told by a physio that my problem comes from having bad posture, I do try and remember to sit up straight and all that, and I always pick things up in the correct way ,ie bend your knees , not your back etc
Mine always happens after I`ve been bending or kneeling down for long periods, I`ve been fitting my kitchen the past couple of weeks and at the end of the day my back locks up, surely at 38 I`m not ready for the scrapheap just yet. lol
I suffer from a bad back occasionally (old war wound that flares up now and then), I saw a physio about it and they gave me some exercises to do when it comes on... I think it's to do with getting my back/spine back in line again or something. Perhaps they could suggest something similar for you?
You should go to see a chiropractor, if it goes now and again, the last thing you should do is put heat on it,an ice pack is better for most conditions, but get it checked out,it might be an old injury that flares up now and again,so it is worth being looked at,don't bother with the doctor for back pain, good luck, Ray
Hi ELVIS, go and get your back sorted m8, its ok saying " i dont fancy forking out 40 a time" for professional help but in the long run it will be worth it.
A friend of mine had the same attiutude as you and he ended up with a ruptured disc and 6 months off work!
I'd second what Ratter says: try some yoga. Not only does it help with the imemdiate pain/problem, but it improves your posture. I do yoga, and it has helped my back no end.
I'd never go near a chiropractor again, after what he did to me. [Long, messy story]
I've been to chiropractors and osteopaths (osteopaths are gentler, as a rule) - it is costly, and actual treatments varies from one to another; but over the years it's relieved me of a lot of pain. Sometimes you just have to ask what's more important, your money or your back.
Siam, I am sorry you had problems with a Chiropractor, but obviously there are good and bad ones,as in builders etc:
I have been to two and both have been superb, they can't all be banded as no good.
