Unusual Names

Hiya
I have also put this in parenting as wasn't sure where it should go. I am 5 momths pregnant and trying to come up with babies names. So far have a few for boys but no girls name. The problem is, my name is so unusual that I have never met or heard of anyone with my name. I like being unique and want my child to have a fairly unusual name that isn't too common also but am struggling. Does anyone have any suggestions?? Also, it is hard as I don't want anything too out there or something that is fashionable just for now. Do you know what I mean??

we have a Keziah which is rare and unusual, an Esther and a Harriet which are not common names anymore.

Having an unusual name myself (I have met one person with my name - twenty years ago) I didn't want my children to have an unusual name. I am sick of spelling it and people saying - oh isn't that nice, where does that come from? - and having to explain.
Equally I didn't want my children to have a fashionable name, I remember that Jack was really popular at the time, as was Kayleigh. Anyway, when my eldest son was born we decided to call him Richard, a good solid name, everyone knows how to spell it and we hadn't heard of any babies being called Richard. Lo and behold, two weeks after he was born there was a birth announcement in the local paper and there was another Richard, with the same middle name we'd chosen! Coincidence I thought, but when Richard started school there were only 15 children in reception and three of them were called Richard!
Do bear in mind aswell that a name you choose now for your child may not suit it when it is born. My sister-in-law had chosen the name Rachel if her eldest child was a girl, which it duly was. For three days she was called Rachel until my sister-in-law decided it didn't suit her and called her Alice. Thinking about it I hope she has explained that to her if she's kept all the congratulations cards, as the majority will say Rachel on them!

My Mum has actually got an unusual name which she hates so was surprised she also gave me an unusual name (my name is Temisen by the way, not to get confuse with Tamsin).

But I do sometimes get annoyed with people not pronouncing it properly and I ALWAYS get the 'that's a nice name, where does it come from' But I really feel the good points of my name outweigh the bad. I love being unique and want to pass that on to my child without being too out there.

I really liked the name Summer but have since heard of a few people with that name and there parents are very (sorry if I offend anyone) chav!!!! Also, I love Elliott but think it is too common now............

It is such a hard decision as obiously the baby wil have to put up with whatever I chooser forever!

Hi i answered in the parenting section, i have just had a boy and named him Harrison, his middle name is Christison, my daughter is Adele.
If i was to have a girl this time it was to be Halle,or Addison and we also liked Maddie.
For a boy it was Harrison or Carson.
It is so hard. Good luck and enjoy your bump.

...my daughter is called Faith, I did consider Ruby (if she had been born on a Tuesday), Hope,Kaya, Eira (welsh for snow, as it was snowing on the day we bought her back from hospital) Seren (welsh for star) Mali (rhymes with Sally - welsh version of Molly)

i agree with spudqueen on this one - my name is unusual and very welsh - my mum kind of made it up for me - but it used to really get to me having to spell it out all the time and having to teach people to pronounce it - i have since given up and answer to most versions sounding similar! also the english pronounciation sounds like 'have one' so you can imagine the comments ive had. i used to wish for a name like ann - just for one day!
