Wishing Richard Hammond well in a positive way!

I'm going to post this elsewhere on AB too but 'Pistonheads' have set up a Get Well soon page where you can also make a donation on the Hamster's behalf to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance a good cause which I'm sure Richard would be delighted to know has benefited, and which will be able to continue saving lives with the much needed donations.

About time air ambulances got a bit of recognition, they save so many lives,we have one in North Wales, and they always seem to be under pressure to raise money to keep it going, where lives are concerned it should not be the priority, hope they raise loads though, although as I say they should not have to.

I agree Ray - it's very sad that Richard had such a horrible accident but I have a feeling he will be really pleased at the positive publicity and fund raising the Air Ambulances have received because of it.
Pistonheads thought they'd raise a couple of thousand pounds and I think they've reached about 53,000 so far, which pays for about 150 flights.

Oh and if anyone wants to know how he is doing read this brilliant piece by Jeremy Clarkson in todays Sun. A testament to friendship I feel! Hear Hear!

Air Ambulances do indeed deserve recognition especially on the North Devon Coast where I live. I don't follow this Richard Hammond, don't know him, never watch the program but am really sorry that the guy has had such a terrible accident in recording a program that brings pleasure to many. I would hope that the Air Ambulance (in whatever area the ABers live in) receive a donation.
There are plenty of innocent people who need their services - not the paid presenters with a death wish - but simple citizens who - without an air ambulance service - would die. It is time that this recent situation possibly highlights the plight of the Air Ambulance service and we channel donations into that service as a whole and not into any particular area that the service happens to operate in.

Ok Ward Minter, can I comment please and not start an argument with you or anyone in the process? I think Hellion was bringing the plight of the much maligned shortpaid air ambulance. Hellion may well live in the area that has been mentioned to need to receive donations - I tried to word my post that the air ambulance nationwide should receive donations. I am sure wherever we live if we simply donated a few pence it would reach the really needy areas (be it Yorkshire or the outer hebrides or where we live) It's a great and necessary service- there's a headquarters and it would be good to donate direct. I am sure they will split donations to all the air ambulances in the UK and that way we all contribute and all remain happy.
