Cheese
10 Answers
Whenever i eat a fair bit of cheese i seem to get really bad heartburn to the extent it is so unbearable i have to inhale deeply to stop the burning in my chest as it feels like my chest is on fire and its quite worrying. Im pretty sure its when i eat dairy...could this be some kind of dairy intolerance or anything? And does anyone else get anything similar?

I have always had a dairy allergy but it makes me vomit, and if it gets on my skin brings me out in a rash. I would cut out the cheese, and make sure you drink lower fat milk. Zantac is brilliant for heartburn, can clear it up for a day or 2. Bizarrely I find sipping really cold milk can also help relieve the symptoms.
know, I dont think alergies cause heartburn, but i do know that high fat contane food does. Sipping milk helps calm the burning sensation but in the long run doen no good. Knock the cheese on the head. You will probably find that lots of other fatty food might cause this in the long run. Best to avoid it though, else you'll end up with an ulcer.
I suffer from a similar thing, and i have finally put it down to eating cheese. If i eat it quite late at night say after a meal out or with friends, and i go bed straight afterwards, within a couple of hours of lying down the heartburn is unbearable and i find it lasts for days afterwards. But this only happens when i eat cheese. I am ok with other dairy products. I find hot tea with a teaspoon of sugar really helps to cool the burning. Why are all nice things so bad for us, life is so unfair. Its probably not helped by the fact i have usually had a few glasses of wine too... so maybe i shouldn't moan!!xxx
Although it could be all the things as mentioned above, yes, it could be an allergy. I have an allergy to our local milkman's milk - gives me dreadful heartburn, even after just a couple of cups of tea. But, I don't suffer when I have organic milk, nor from many other sources of milk. It's most odd, I know! Occasionally, some cheese will affect me, but by-and-large, cheese seems OK.
It might be something used in cheese manufacture, not the dairy product itself EG rennet(?)
So, try some other sorts of cheese, including organic.
