From where scruffscat ? if you get a bus to Picadilly Cirus,Haymarket is right there, it is also just round the corner from Trafalgar Square.
Sorry just saw you said Soho, Just head towards the circus cross over and Haymarket is right there.
Hi scruffscat, should have said, obviously keep your wits about you,bad area for pickpockets and bag snatchers, but still a great place to visit, Ray

Hi wardy you ok ?, love that area.

Love Covent Garden, and not as many oddballs as Soho, you won't get ripped off in Covent Garden, might even be some street entertainment, great bars & Cafes as wardy says, enjoy it.
My wife has an apartment in Gower St and I love both Soho and Covent Garden. Soho isn't what it was either, much safer now so you should be alright with either, there will be street enterntainment in Covent Garden right enough and of course the market there, there's China Town, loads to do, my very favourite parts of London, very fond memories of living there.
Some bird tried charging me 18.00 for a pint of lager in a Soho bar in1980 just because she popped her boobs out and thrust them into my mates face, he was only 16, Ive never seen anybody blush so much lol.
I love that part of London, went out with an ex a while back and he took me to Ronnie Scott's in soho after dinner outside Cafe Rouge opposite.

We then got one of those little bike cart things for a ride around the place....great fun!

There's a lovely Italian restaurant in Haymarket too I went to a couple of months ago, can't think of the name of it but will try and find out.
Soho to Shaftesbury Avenue, turn right to Piccadilly, down to Haymarket. About 20 minutes walk maximum. If you want to go around London, get an open top bus at Piccadilly .. and wrap up warm !! Enjoy. And beware pickpockets, I cannot stress enough.
