Tonsilitis -

The girl who sits next to me at work for 8hrs a day has today been diagnosed with tonsilitis and was off work. she is 23 and i am Male, age 26 - I have never had it, am i at risk from catching it? if she comes back to work does that increase my risk of catching it???

Is is contagious and can be passed through contact with the throat or nasal fluids of someone who is already infected.

So could potentially be passed by kissing, sneezing, drinking from the same cup and hand contact etc...

The incubation period between picking up the infection and the disease breaking out is two to four days - sometimes it can be less.

i have only had tonsillitis twice and twice it was because of damage to the throat-once because i got a fishbone stuck in my throat and 15 years later because I tried smoking rollups and burned my throat.i'm no doctor but NOT everyone gets tonsillitis, like the flu for instance.i wouldnt worry about it being contagious for a second .horrible illness by the way, but its not like chicken pox.

Tonsillitis is a Viral infection, therefore, in extreme cases it can be passed on, mainly by the methods Jenna1978 has stated, she's described it perfectly.

Have you had your tonsils removed - if you don't have any you probably can't get tonsillitis but maybe a sore throat.

my best friend who i grew up with for years had tonsilities 3 times a year and still does ( she wont have them out) and i never once caught it in all those years.
However only a few months ago my son had anti bacterial tonsilities then my fella got it and then so did i for the first time ever so i would be careful get some spray and clean everything down at work
