I went on a fabulous date on Friday with an absolute gentleman. He was charming, witty.... in fact, he was spot on..... but his breath was absolutely DISGUSTING!!!!! It was so bad that I had to open the window in the taxi and as much as i hate smoke breath, I COULDN'T WAIT for the moment he would light up!

I joked about it the night before with a mate and I even described it as that awful metal kind of smell.... which sadly, is a precise discription for real.

I didn't kiss him, thank god, but I really like him... how on earth am i going to get round this? He doesn't eat gum and I reckon its halitosis which will need to be sorted out at the dentist rather than masking it with something powerful like garlic or onions (yes, even they are preferable)!!!

Ouch....that's a tough one! i take it you hadn't met him before? As in internet dating? I really can't see how you can get round that, as if you bring it up, however nicely, he's gonna be humiliated (I would be!)...maybe go on another date, you never know, it could have been a (very unfortunate) one off?
Try going on another date, take some extra strength breath freshners with you (lol) and at some point whip them out of your bag (maybe after you've eaten to look natural) and have one yourself. Say something like "these are nicer than the usual ones I have after food, try one" and give him one. Continue something like "Can you imagine some people don't use breath freshner's after food? I've always done that haven't you?" and hopefully he'll be wanting to impress you and conform to what he thinks you find normal and agree and take one. You can then judge if his breath is any better afterwards. If it is great, now you just need him to use them himself, and if not then you know a trip to the dentists is in order and I'm afraid I'm out of dieas as to how to be subtle.

Yes it is a tough one and yes, it was internet dating! Hahahaha.... but I'll be flying down to see him again after Christmas I think.... he kissed my cheek a few times and I just cracked a joke and turned my head, calling him a big softie....

The mints after a meal is a good idea... but sadly, they won't last forever and how many mints could i give him before he would notice I was up to something? Perhaps he would be able to tell by the size of the sack?! Hahahahahaha!!!! It WOULD only happen to me, wouldn't it.... groan!
Cruel to be kind. easier said than done, but as you seem to like him, and assuming he feels the same way, tell him how much you like him, but also tell him of the problem, and you'll go out with him once its sorted, if he wants to see you again, he;ll do something about it.

As with the other answers, there's no easy way out of this.
Good Luck.
It may not be his teeth. Ask him in a polite way to stick out his tongue. If it is yellow or coated with plaque it may be have a stomach problem. Failing this if he smokes it could cause problems with bad breadth (remember those adverts?)
Hi jeanette1976. Just wondering based on your other question how the heck can you even smell this guys breath through the amount of booze you are knocking back each night. I obviusly don't know you but most people on this site put the 1976 as their birth date. If you are only 20 your drinking is horrendous (if you're any other age you're drinking is horrendous). I think you need to address your alcohol problems and not someone elses bad breath problems.

Sorry sometimes truth really hurts. Don't damage yourself for the future.

You are stocking up major problems for your future. Sort yourself out!

Ask him to sign up on here, and then you can have a contest to see who can belittle the other more in public.
In response to Athley, are you sure you haven't been drinking yourself? Someone born in 1976 will be 30, not 20!

Hi Athley, it was my first date with him and I only drink like that once or twice a week... it seems like you think I'm drunk every day of my life! But I noticed the other ABer's who replied to my other question drink the same or much more.... but I appreciate your point with no hard feelings.... And I'm 30, by the way, hehehe!!!
Sorry everyone that was a typing error - I'm worse at typing than I am at maths!!

Jeanette you're still boozing far to much even if its 2-3 times a week - really binging is horrible. You must feel pants the next day!!!!

I do drink myself about 1-2 glasses of red wine a few times a week so I'm not a preaching teetotaller!!
