Eek, Im having one next week and would love to know what one is like.
Plus any ideas on what they think might be wrong with me, I have been regurgitating my food quite a lot and have succeeded in a brilliant amount of weight loss cause of this lol My food isn't digesting, unless I eat the tiniest amount or is its really sloppy and wet and this is why they are investigating it, cause I am gettting a little poorly mainly through malnutrition, also since this has happened I have been losing my voice regularly, mainly a couple of hours after waking and talking. My doctor didnt say much but said the 2 could be connected.

Good luck Goodsoulette, i think i may be having one of these in the next few weeks and im dreading it. I get very bad acid coming up into my throat and then i am usually sick. My stomach goes into spasms and i cant stop wretching. Unfortunately i am not losing weight because of it though lol. I have spoken to a few people who have had one and they dont think its too bad, one did seem to think it wasnt nice but at least you can be sedated whilst it happens. let us know how you get on x
My hubby's results showed he had a Hiatus Hernia,he used to get terrible stomach cramps and regurgitate acidy food. My friend's result's showed she had an ulcer. I've got Acid Reflux. They wanted me to have the camera but I chickened out so they gave me a barium enema instead! Good luck ..Goodsoulette.

the weird thing is that I dont have any acid in the food that i regurgitate... too much info, sorry.
when they do this, u are sedated, so although you are away with the fairies, you soert of drift in and out, you are aware of whats going on now and again, but nothing hurts,
i've had it done and its not as bad as it sounds.
go luck.
I agree with devilwoman. There is no pain involved at all.
My experience was slightly embarrassing though - as the dr was pulling out the endoscope tube, it must have triggered my gag reflex and stimulated vomiting. I was partially conscious at that point, and managed to turn to my left, but unfortunately that is exactly where the dr was sitting! I was mortified, but he said it happens all the time, and it really was no big deal!
Daisy, I would rather have a camera than a barium enema, yuck. Think you were very brave to go for that, poo like lead bullets as I recall!!!!

Goodsoulette, it sounds like a hiatus hernia if the food is not being broken down. Hiatus Hernias can be on many levels from heart burn and acid reflux to uncontrolable vomiting when anything is eaten.

I was born with the latter and had four operations to correct it and am fine now. The last operation was 31 years ago but I am sure surgical techniques have advance fantastically since then, only down side is that I cant be sick at all.

If you have concerns please contact you doctor and ask for clarification as to why this test is being carried out, what they are looking for, as it will not help the situation if you are nervous before hand. Take care and good luck

Goodsoulette , I.ve had that procedure, you will be sedated and, as other have said it's relativly painless. I,ve also had the barium meal, trust me the endoscopy is a better option.I had pretty much the same symptoms as you sweetheart and, although I cant say what's causing your regurgitation, in my case it was an ulcer (too much alcohlol, fags + spicy food).
Let us know what the docs say.
Good luck

oh noooo,.,... they arent gonnamake me give up my favourite things lol
The tablets disolve any ulcers very quickly and you can enjoy your nights with a minimum amount of time off
try stuff like eno's and slippery elm

also try anti spasmodics like colofac

get yourself some complan.
Well Im a cissy!. That's why I opted for the barium thingy:-)))
I had one a few months ago ....dont panic! i had mine without a sedative and it was fine you just have to not think about it and it will be over relatively quickly ...thinkin too much about it only maks you nervous and makes it more difficult to swallow the camera.

theres no real need to be sedated as they will spray something which numbs your throat and you cant feel anything. where as with a sedative youll be knocked out and it will take longer to recover, with the non sedative youll be fine after it and can walk out of there..

good luck
Daisy, was it a barium meal or a barium enema, the meal is the one you drink and the enema enters the body from the other end shall we say, I am assuming meal.
barium enema ouch ! i had it
Hence your user name???
The endoscopy is referred to as an OGD,
oesophagoscopy, gastroscopy and duodenoscopy.
The scope is slender, quite innocuous really, and it's
entirely painless. A bit of gagging discomfort at first, for
about 5 seconds, then tra-la-la. Personally, have had 2 OGDs without sedation . Can't think what all the fuss is
about.

Common findings are hiatus hernia, peptic ulceration,
pyloric stenosis, oesophagitis or gastritis, but it is also
used to rule out rarer conditions too.

The alternative to OGD is a Barium Meal, a protracted
business involving X-Rays. My advice : have the OGD
and quit worrying - it's easy, rapid, and you can drive
home to a good meal immediately.
Hi Goodsoulette- I know you wrote this a long time ago, but I was very interested to see that your reflux problems may have caused you to lose your voice. How are you these days? Did you get it sorted, and what did you do? I now have a hiatus hernia which I am convinced is the reason why I have no voice and I will do anything to get my voice back. Hope this reaches you!!
